"Destination Anywhere" Review 20 May 2000
Jon On His Own

A review by J. Jack Flash

Jonīs second solo album provided him doing something different from the band production. The music was basícally done with machines, which I donīt like at all. Eurythmicsīs Dave Stewart also brought his spices to the soup. Ratings from 1-10.

1. QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS
The first song is also the albums best. It has really nice and strong guitar riffs. Good beat and easy chorus. Will catch you right away and make you sing along with it.
10/10.

2. JANIE DONīT TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN
The song which is closest to the Bon Jovi production. Those violin riffs are really nice. Also a singalong track.
9/10

3. MIDNIGHT IN CHELSEA
A rather strange song. Something wide apart from the bands production. Really odd at first, but you get used it. Thinking better, it has kinda nice relaxed feeling in it. Certainly not bad at all.
8/10

4. UGLY
Jon complaining himself as ugly?!! Strange. A very short, lightweighted song. A nice one but not the tops of the album.
Odd single choice.
8/10

5. STARING AT YOUR WINDOW WITH A SUICASE IN MY HAND
A very slow, quiet song. Not so special one.
6/10

6. EVERY WORD WAS A PIECE OF MY HEART
Sounds the same as the last song.
5/10

7. ITīS JUST ME
Veryyyy slow. A weak one.
5/10

8. DESTINATION ANYWHERE
The title track is one of the bests of the album. A little rocking song for a long time. Nice words and beat. A great one. Shouldīve been a single release.
9/10

9. LEARNING HOW TO FALL
This is a good one. I just love the chorus.
8/10

10. NAKED
Sounds like hmmm... groovy. Like a dance track. I donīt like the beat of this song. Not my favorites.
5/10

11. LITTLE CITY
Another very slow song. A very good, catching chorus.
7/10

12. AUGUST 7
Stupid to have a rocking beat in a very serious song. Jon wrote this to his manager after the managers daughter had died. Up- beat in a song telling about a close friends childs death. You find yourself singing with it " tell me it was just a dream, august 7th 4:15..." Not very nice in my opinion.
7/10

13. COLD HARD HEART
Starts very slow but then getīs wind under itīs wings. Good to hear drums sometimes. Very good track and a nice end to the album.
7/10

Overall a good album, but not as good as Ritchies Undiscovered Soul. Too much very slow songs here. Overall maybe a little better than Jonīs first solo Blaze of Glory, although it had a couple finer performances.

Rating: 7/10
