we;; in uni i study or have studied:
early modern scotland and britain (around 1450-1703)
industrial britain
post civil war US history
20th century european history
in my 1st year we covered a ridiculous amount of stuff over the year. you're talking pretty much fromt he battle of hastings right through to the present with america, britain and europe. obviously alot of it wasnt too indepth.
to be honest I enjoy all of them and find it somewhat strange that the early modern scottish stuff is the hardest. I enjoy the 20th century european stuff the most.
apart from that I like roman history and would like to dabble in a bit of aztec and ancient chinese.
i've got to swot up on medievil scottish history for a classroom placement over the summer and im not particularly looking forward to that.
do i sound like a history geek?
ponrauil

If you had to change your career what would you do?
Jim Bon Jovi
07-06-2006, 06:24 PM
i love uni but if i could go back with a bit of hindsight i would seriously have considered getting into plumbing or some other decent paying apprenticeships.
sadly big tone is too concerned about gettign peopl einto uni even if they hate it or drop out after one week so saying you wanted to do a trade was met with a resounding level of scorn when i was in school.
V is it a stupid idea aiming to have half of school leavers going into universities?
UKjovi
07-06-2006, 06:27 PM
Yes it is uni is only suited to so many people and its just away of keeping the unemployement figures down
BTW Plumbing is a good trade but it kills your knees trust me

Doesn't everyone lie at least once in a while?
Ponrauil
spunkywho
07-06-2006, 07:07 PM
Is that a trick question?
Yes, I do think it may be necessary at very rare occasions, but I think people lie way too much and way too easily about all sorts of silly stuff.

That said, I signed up for a fun game with my group at work - got put in a team with two partners and me.... I've never played in my life. I am scrambling to learn something/anything before the play to not make an utter fool out of myself.

Of course always without fail :)
Do you think it possible for dogs to be gay?
Thomas Anderson
07-06-2006, 07:41 PM
I don't see why not lol With animals I can't see it being a nurture issue, they aren't going to face the same problems due to not being as intelligent as us, but there is the genetic issue, so if it can affect people then logically it can affect animals too.
Do you have any gay friends?
Not that I´m aware of.
How would you react if someone you care comes out of the closet?
Thomas Anderson
07-06-2006, 09:09 PM
If it was someone I know then I'd perhaps be shocked, though that is only because I wouldn't expect it from anyone I know, but really it wouldn't bother me.
What would you do if your found out that someone close to you had commited a serious crime? Would you turn them in or help them?
Jim Bon Jovi

Sex, I think.
Is your current partner the love of your life?
ponrauil
07-11-2006, 11:24 PM
Tough one... of my life up to now yes... but you never know what the future holds, and I don't believe there's only one "love of my life" per person. I also hate to think situations are settled forever.
So, to truely answer the question, I hope so.
You?
Ponrauil
I think so, yes. I've been madly in love with another guy in my teens - like I haven't been in love with someone else - but he wouldn't come as near to real love as my husband does.
Do you think you can love two (wo)men at the same time?
ponrauil
07-11-2006, 11:33 PM
In different ways yes. Its an uncomfortable situation though, even if one of the two relations stays platonic.
Same question to you with men?
Ponrauil
I'd like to think so too - that it is possible, I mean.
What do you value most in your current relationship?
ponrauil
07-11-2006, 11:43 PM
The trust and reliablity. Looking at what we've achieved in 10 years as a couple while still being able to feel like we've been dating for a couple of weeks.
You?
(I'm awfully original with my questions he?)
Ponrauil
Same. I'm as much original in my answers as you are in your questions :)
What would you like to change in your partner?
ponrauil
07-12-2006, 12:03 AM
I wish she had a better sense of relativity sometimes, and also that she knew to just stop and relax for more than 30 seconds.
Oh and her mother :)
*thinks hard for a question... ting*
You?
Ponrauil
I kinda wished he'd pay more attention to the things I'm saying.
Oh and his mother. Well, his whole family. Definitely.
Biggest regret?
ponrauil
07-12-2006, 05:24 AM

Ever been hurt bad by a relationship?
spunkywho
07-12-2006, 08:56 AM
I have no idea really and actually have been trying to figure that out myself.
There has never been a person in my life that I particularly looked up to or that I felt influenced by. Well, at least not real people. Certainly, there are historic figures I have admiration and respect for, but they couldn't influence me as our lives never collided.
All of my desires/hopes/ambitions (constructive and destructive) have always come out of myself - a deeply hidden well of 'the force' (lol) it seems. Perhaps it's an anti-fight that kept me on course. I hated my childhood soooooo much that the incapacitating fear of being in the same position ever again, kept me moving along even though everything in life was trying to hold me back.
Long story, short answer: my greatest influence in life is my grave fear of being someone or being in a position I have not the least bit of respect for.
Hate and fear are more powerful than love ..... don't you think?
spunkywho
07-12-2006, 09:07 AM
back on track in order of actual questions (;)):
bonji1968: Yes, and I will never put myself in a position again where someone could hurt me like that. Unfortunately, my unwillingness to open up emotionally stifles the success rate of any relationships I might find myself in. Generally, I just get bored in relationships and head for the door - well before my partner realizes something's up. Hence, I've got a long list of ex-lovers who hate my guts. Better than getting hurt though :)
Do you think trust can be learned?
Yes. We start out with trust as babies (after all, we don't have anyone or anything else to trust on besides our mom and dad for feeding, clothing and changing diapers) and I think we learn how not to trust by bad experiences. In that same way, we can also learn how to trust again.
Very few people are trustworthy though, don't you think?
spunkywho
07-12-2006, 09:36 AM

what makes him your best friend
ponrauil
07-14-2006, 07:28 AM
We understand each other and have the same views on many things despite having to very different ways of addressing issues. We're always on different paths that go to the same place, it's amazing.
On top of that we've shared a lot of various experiences over the years. We've also been there for one another in the tough periods.
Basically trust and understanding.
What do you treasure in friendship?
Ponrauil

A wolf of course.
Is that too cliche?
Yours?
ponrauil
07-14-2006, 07:46 AM
No not cliche. A Dolphin would be cliche.
Mine? A bear.
Why a wolf?
Ponrauil
spunkywho
07-14-2006, 08:00 AM
Because wolves are the coolest animals in the world.
They are gorgeous, secretive, incredibly tough, smart, independent, mysterious, appreciate their pack, have great respect for each other and apply humane and respectful rules to their interactions with each other, scare the ignorant, elegant and deliberate.... Everything about them oozes perfection.
Why would a dolphin be cliche? What kind of a totem animal would be a stupid dolphin?????????
Why a bear?
ponrauil
07-14-2006, 04:36 PM
A bear for it's "quiet strength", because it's smart, able to have some fun and appreciates solitude. For their incredible survival instinct and their amazing interaction with their biosphere. You can learn a lot on nature from them.
They also likes doughnuts and enjoy naps. :)
Dolphins are not stupid btw.
Ever saw a whale close enough to make eye contact?

ponrauil
07-14-2006, 08:24 PM
So one could pick his nose with both hands on the wheel.
If you could have a bionic body part (a la 6 billion dollar man), which would you chose to enhance?
Ponrauil
Eyes, so I can see through things when I want to.
(that was gross, btw, Auré :S)
Are you satisfied with your physical appearance?
Eyes, so I can see through things when I want to.
(that was gross, btw, Auré :S)

What is your favourite british sitcom?
Ab Fab probably.
Does Rowan Atkinson make you laugh?
Thomas Anderson
07-15-2006, 03:13 PM
Other than in Mr Bean yes, I think he is very funny, I just don't like the character Mr Bean. Blackadder is brilliant.
This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you got a moment, it's a twelve-story crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying 'This Is a Large Crisis'. A large crisis requires a large plan. Get me two pencils and a pair of underpants.
Do you like Blackadder?
