Is it just me but isn't an 'extended edition' of a film supposed to 'add' bits to films rather than chop bits out?
Anyone-else noticed that some scenes in the original version have been cut out of the extended versions even though new bits have been added. If they go and release a definitive 'complete' edition of each film after the release of ROTK, I am going to be extremely peeved. After getting the first film on video and then getting the first 2 films on extended DVD for xmas, it'll piss me off something chronic if they release a newer longer version of the lot! :?

I never noticed. I have both the theatrical and extended edition of The Fellowship of the Ring, and I haven't noticed anything. Can you give us some examples?

When the group first go into Lothlorien and Haldir stops them, Haldir and Aragorn have a brief chat just after they're apprehended in elvish - it isnt included in the extended edition. Also in the Two Towers versions, Legolas shoots several warg-riders before eventually jumping (rather niftily) on to the horse but in the extended edition, he only shoots a couple and then its cut. There are several others I noticed in both films but can't think of them at the moment. I'll have a look next time I watch. They are only subtle edits but after re-buying EXTENDED versions at a cost of £50 for both of them, you expect to get extra, not have them cut original scenes down! Have a look and see if you agree.

Well it depends where you buy them; you'd think that the specialists stores like HMV and Virgin would sell them cheapest, but I got both for just £20 each...from Morissons.
I think it's hardly worth complaining about maybe a few seconds cut when you are getting an extra hour or so on the movies, and The Return Of The King will be past 4 hours apparently.

I've never noticed anything cut out of either movie on the extended versions. I'll have to check out those scenes you were referring to. Either way though, I'm with Neil...if they cut a few seconds out of a scene to give me extra scenes then I'll take it.

I have both the original and extended versions of the 2 that are released; i've never noticed any cutting out. But like Neil and Jenn said, you get an hour or so extra, compared to what you could have with the original release; that's great.

Well if they include all of the footage that was cut from ROTK, it should be pushing 6 hours! They cut loads out of it apparently.
I'm not annoyed as such, just disappointed that they'd cut something that was in the theatrical version out of the extended version. It'll annoy me if they release a newer longer version of the lot though because, as I am sure you'll agree, people buy the extended editions to get the definitive, complete films.
