What did you think then? I saw it yesterday and thought it was awesome... It had a little bit of everything, and I sort of could relate to Scarlett's character, as I'm also trying to figure out what to do with my life (okay, I'm not married and I'm not in Tokyo, I know :P ). I like films where you can relate to something in them. And this film is about loneliness, falling in love, uncertainty... but seen from an optimistic point of view, I guess.
I loved it! I can't wait for the DVD to come out!! :D

:? I am not quite sure what to make of it. All of my friends raved about it, but I can't really understand thr hype. It was "just okay" to me. I thought it was kind of tragic how nothing changes from start to finish. Nothing ever gets resolved. I think this is what bothered me about it. There was a problem but no solution.

I quite agree with Mouse. It's just basically nothing...it has a simple story plot and nothing really exciting happens. I think i expected more of the movie because of all the hype and nominations the film's gotten. I was just disappointed :(

Glad I am not alone! I thought I was weird because I was so disappointed by it. :D

That was the main point for me. Nothing happens, nothing comes to its conclusion. And I guess that's life. The first time I was in London I was like that. Everything seemed strange, I didn't know anyone and my command of the English language was (and still is!) note very developed. I met people, had a sort of nice time and then it ended and I never knew what became of them.
I think I love this movie because I can relate to most things on it... :o

That's very reasonable; I see where you're coming from with the relations. I suppose that if i had anything of any sort to relate to in that film, i would enjoy it a bit more. I like movies i can relate to, also; but the problem for me was that it wasn't relate-able to me...i've never been to a foreign country, except for Canada, but i'm there lots of times and it's only hours away, so i don't count that :P
But i still like more complicated plots; they could've complicated it up just a notch....and still not cross the hollywood-ized line.

whoo! 3 people! :P
i have read some reviews in Entertainment Weekly that say " Lost in Translation (screenplay) worked - but somewhere the story got lost in translation to the screen" and "to knock idiotic films like Lost In Translation" and "But he saves his real ire for Lost in Translations: '...I detested it. Aristotle had a thing called 'catharsis' : At the end of the picture something should happen. What happened? It's a picture about two losers who go home to losing situations' "
But this has to deal with the Academy Awards....so they're even more nasty then ever :P and changing their opinions all over the place; i'm not sure who to trust :P
So we're not totally alone :D but still on the lower part of the scale...

There would be something wrong with it if everybody actually liked it, don't you think? :P
I usually prefer not to like a movie than feeling indifference towards it anyway. Of course it's all much better if I like it! :P
