The thing is, it always reflects worse on the Hall of Fame than it does on Bon Jovi that they're not it it. It makes the HOF look like a joke. Even people who aren't "fans" know Bon Jovi are extremely successful and should be there.

But CCR was a critic's band while Bon Jovi was not -- the judges/critics see CCR's legacy as being influential, valuable -- and most important, credible. Richie's absence will make it easier for them to disregard Bon Jovi as a "real" band, despite their being influential enough to pave the way to success to all the other harder-rocking commercial bands. Of course I don't agree, I'm just trying to look at how THEY'RE trying to justify their actions.
I wonder if there's a story behind that. Like, is Dave upset, or holding a grudge for some reason.

And who exactly are The Cars or Chicago influencing these days?

Yes and yes.

There is no love lost between Dave Marsh and Jon.

Both broke new ground. Bon Jovi didn't, they just released a couple of excellent songs. But trailblazers, they weren't.

Agree. And Kiss too.

Heck there are a ton. Jon will make his way in one day. I think it's just a spiteful thing....They are probably waiting for Jon to die so he won't live to see it.

You didn't answer the question. You said Bon Jovi hasn't influenced any modern artists and I asked what modern artists the Cars and Chicago are influencing these days.

I'm not disputing that Bon Jovi's influence primarily ceased when the hair band era died, what I'm saying is current influence cannot be high on the criteria list since the Cars and Chicago earned nominations.

The Cars influenced pretty much every new wave band ever. I don't listen to Chicago, so I can't pinpoint their peers.

Bon Jovi inspired... who exactly? Warrant? Trixter? The biggest hairbands were contemporaries of Bon Jovi; Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Poison, they didn't sound like BJ.

But that's the thing. Once a band starts influencing others, it's impact then is still appearing in current music because a certain music style such as new wave is still happening in current music.

All Bon Jovi did is write big chorusses. Like other bands before, and other bands after them did. Nothing Bon Jovi did was revolutionairy, no band nowadays has elements of Bon Jovi in it. I don't care for influencing others, some do it and some don't. But Bon Jovi never did.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
