He has always said his first love is songwriting. That has never changed and it never will. I don't think he's pimping out the music for the sake of a football team. Personally, I'm not even expecting the next tour to be the same kind of massive tour they usually do.

Note that "a team that is not for sale" not just "a team". He still wants one.

I don't understand enough about NFL to say whether it's a good idea or not. Owning a football team over here means you pump millions in but don't take much out.

It's not a bad idea if can AFFORD to pump in millions and not take much out. The thing is, you have to have BILLIONS to be able to do that in America -- which Jon doesn't.

I have hopes that the next album is good - we shall see.
I whole heartedly agree with you.

If it is his personal goal and dream to buy a football team he is free to do so and I am the last one to critizise this but Jon seems to forget that there are still people there who want good music and love the band for it.

We don't really know Jon. I still have high hopes for the new record because I did love the Circle and I still do and Burning Bridges was a step in the right direction for me.

Sorry, back to the topic, Jon, football, don't care if it doesn't affect the music. We'll find out after we hear the new record....

How has he forgotten that? BB was the best album, IMO, in YEARS. There's a new album coming out THIS YEAR. He's always said songwriting is his first love. If he put the quality of music he did on Burning Bridges on a kiss-off album to the record company, he's not going to turn out shit on an album on a new label where he's going to be in a position of proving himself once again.

I don't see why so many people think it has to be one or the other. Highly intelligent, highly creative, highly driven people like Jon are capable of having more than one interest in life and doing them well. Hell, even average people are capable of having more than one interest in life and doing okay at them!

Fans need to stop pigeonholing him and saying "He can only focus on music." If you could only focus on ONE aspect of your life, even if it was a great aspect of your life, it would drive you insane. People need diversity. Look at your own life and you'll see that.

Please Becky, read my post again! I am not critizising Jon for his dreams or his way of doing things (I do not know his motivations behind every thing he does and I am not in his mind neithter do I want to be in his mind).
All I said was that I agree with what Kathleen said because he will lose me as a fan IF he is pimping out his music.

Him having forgotten that there are more people who are in it for the music was aimed at the Runaway Tour / NFL thing.
In one of the press releases Jon talked about the super fan being a consumer, hence he sells himself as a product which is only good if you want to make money.
But if someone's passion lies in songwriting why not share it in an environment that is NOT only there to make money, aiming at the consumer and selling yourself as a product.
It is his choice, he is his own boss.

And btw, I do not think that Jon is the bad guy neither do I think he is perfect, which many people make him to be. He is a human just like everybody else although I do think he is a very complex human

Hang on.. Nobody has said he can't do the both. What I and others have been saying is that 2013 tour and album was rushed and lacked a lot because in my opinion, his focus was to get extra income for a football team.

I am a personal trainer and a PE teacher so I have two focuses. A business that I never stop working hard for and put an incredible amount of effort in and a part time PE job (5 days a week, 12pm-5pm) that again, I work unbelievably hard for so I wouldn't tell someone just to focus on the one thing BUT if it's going to get in the way of his music, then I'd sooner him sack it off and I do think it gets in the way.

I don't mind him doing it when their is no tour or album. Focus on as many teams as you want. But when you have a new album and possible tour coming up, then focus on that.

In the holidays off the school, I focus on my business and try to work as much as I can doing my Personal Training. ONE thing.

If I was tied to one project or one outlet at a time, I'd literally have to blow my f-ing brains out. Different strokes for different folks. 24 hours in the day.... gotta bust up the monotony.
