Glad he was able to find a doctor to help him out.

By listening to some snippets like this one, you can really hear that he is doing a lot better and has more confidence in opening up his throat.

He still has ways to go before it gets to an acceptable level, but this now sounds like he is back to 2015. voice at least.
He didn't have a choice. It's literally in the documentary. There is footage of him waking up after surgery with a whiteboard that says "I'm okay". It's only public knowledge because he made it public knowledge.

I'm confused how he was able to do vocals on the new album while he's still recovering.

I assume with some major studio trickery.

The surgery was a few years ago. Plus there's a world of difference between singing live and recording. You can do songs a take at a time. Lord knows it will be full of studio tricks to make it sound good, as I feel like the last four or five have. Live is constant singing and far more of a strain than taking your time.

Yeah, I've done some sessions on studio, that's why I'm asking. He can record just one word per day and make it work and all that kind of stuff we know unlimited resources gives to you.

I'm more concerned with the tone of his voice. Right now it sounds deep and I while he speaks it's clear that it's someone that's going through rehabilitation. The record was done with a voice that will dramatically change in one year.

It's going to be weird.

Got it! Yeah I'm really interested to hear how his voice will sound and if Christmas Isn't Christmas was recorded pre or post surgery. I have to imagine it was done in the same sessions as the new album in Nashville.

There is nothing wrong with recording an album syllable by syllable if necessary to make it better. That's why albums from the 80s and 90s sounded incredible. Bob Rock used this recording technique a lot, not only with Bon Jovi, but also with Bryan Adams and Metallica. The result is impressive.

If Jon is doing it and then Shanks uses some other trick to make things better, I'll be fine with that.

We haven't heard Jon's voice in the studio yet, I just hope it's better than Christmas Isn't Christmas. It would also be cool if Legendary included a guitar solo.

Listen to Angry by The Rolling Stones or U2's latest one Atomic City, both have guitar solos. Jon, however, continues with that boring formula where the guitars don't feels in the mix and he doesn't even have a guitar solo to break the monotony.

Never said there was something wrong with "recording one word per day", buddy.

I think the positive a lot have missed is the vocal that you can hear just before the guitar solo in ‘Livin On A Prayer’ at Music Cares where Sammy Hagar puts the vocal up to Jon. I’m pretty sure it’s only Jon singing and although it doesn’t capture the full vocal sound he’s definitely hitting the higher notes which is a huge positive …. You can tell he’s much confident in his delivery of a vocal - singing is as much mental positivity as physical ability …. Check it out ……

Yeah, although it's too low to hear it well, it's only Jon at that very moment
