I think only the most blinkered would deny that Jon (and indeed Richie, he wrote the songs after all) wore their influences on their sleeve and were shameless sometimes.

They weren't the only ones though

Sammet wears his influences shamelessly with almost every song. I don't see the problem with it to be honest.

Lol!! I love Edguy because of that. It's so funny sometimes, but in an enjoyable way.

It's wearing it on its sleeve but also I wouldn't call it ripping off, just maybe borrowing??

Save Me's riff is pretty much the one from You Had Me From Hello.

Yeah, I always thought of that song as Forever by KISS via Germany. Anyway, like I said, Sammet is pretty blatent, but he is such a fan of rock and is pretty open about who influences him and how he uses that. The guy has sung various songs in the style of his favourite singers, used riffs, copied things, but never once have I considered it "stealing". Same with Bon Jovi for me, they use things that have already been used and make them their own. I know it is a murky line, but it really is not an issue for me.

Taking credit for writing a song you had no part in is another matter, or leaving someone's contribution off.

Jon has a different point of view, he just calls it "stealing". Honesty has been rewarded!

That was a just a joke and Jon's way of giving the song respect to his local friends .... NSG was always assumed to be more of a Richie song anyway... That's why he reacted the way he did regarding Jon's statement...

I don't feed into this topic. You could play this game with any artist's song catalog

How does 'It's just me' sound like 'Time' by Pink Floyd ?!
