And Jon's voice is completely different compared to 2003 or 1995. With his current voice and range he's simply not capable of doing Always. He can't train his voice to reach the high notes. It's that simple.

What you believe contradicts the facts. Jon's voice has been going downhill for the past 8 years and only got a bit better when he started dropping the songs in the show that demanded more of him than just the simple verses. Still, his range hasn't gotten any better but worse, so you can come up with theories about training or lessons, that still won't help a single thing.

And Meat Loaf is far from the perfect example. His last tour was a disaster.

Well actually, its possible he could sing always if he learns Speech level singing. Richie did/does it all the time, thats how he gets that strength of vocal for his harmony (although he using a mix of falsetto/full voice there). Listen to Father time, for instance, notice the subtle change in tone between the verse and the chorus (especially on the live ver.) Its also quite evident on If i cant have your love.

If you have any richie kotzen albums, listen to them aswell cos he's mastered it also. Thought tbh it probably is too late for jon now haha. Jon was a freak basically, he could sing incredibly high in full voice all the time, which over time has taken its toll because it destroys your vocal chords basically. Smoking probably didn't help either.

He could never pull it off. Not a chance. The vocals are too much in focus compared to other songs he is struggling with, where some of it is sort of drowned out by the music.

As much as I would like to hear a proper version of Always nowadays, I'm afraid NOBODY here would want to hear it the way it would be performed today. It would just sound terrible. That's the bitter truth people.

I wouldn't know the first thing about vocals, so... If Jon were to quit smoking and take an extended break, would it help (and to what extent)?

Yes, it might help, he might have more power in his voice and wouldn't be out of breath all the time. Still, most damage has already been done. There's an acoustic radio show from the Bounce Promo Tour on which it's very obvious how much damage smoking has done to Jon's voice. You can hear his voice crack simply because he's out of breath.

This discussion reminds me of another discussion 5 years ago where some people here claimed Jon could still sing the chorus of Prayer, but doesn't want to because "he saves his voice".

In both cases it's so obvious that it just can't be done, still, people chose what they want to believe anyway.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

i will never argue that Jon could hit Living on a prayer perfect, not a hope in hell. high C is gone, always is less demanding,

maybe what im saying is that Jon doesnt have to sing the TLFR version of always, there are maybe other tricks of the trade in order to hide poor vocals, if not high A,then lower it slightly, not drasticly,

i believe the whole purpose of TLFR was to change songs so that Jon could sing them lower

high A is not out range, yes he should stop smoking, get back to basics, and all the jazz, it would improve his chances of hitting Always

It is possible to change the key of the song without destroying it. There's been som great rearranging of song through the years.
