Some more moments from the show that I recollect from my memory. As most of you know, it was my first one. And that's not why I rate it that highly, I've seen concerts where I have no problem at saying that they were poor.
The magic that night started before Bon Jovi did. The Olympic roof is a special construction and about 20 minutes before show time, it sounded like rain was hammering on it, even though the sky was clear. The fans had actually begun to make a laola wave and were stomping their feet.
That wave went through the full stadium for easily ten minutes. Just out of nowhere.
Jon was in the most insane mood I've ever witnessed him live or seen him on a recording - in a positive way! Listen to the way he started Everyday or It's My Life!
Before the show, there was a MTV contest and Jon sang Runaway with the winner in his dressing room and then admitted in the talk afterwards that he couldn't stop thinking about the song. At the show, he completely screwed up the lyrics, laughed it off and commented on it - all while the song was still going.
Some say he aimed it at three fans who were at almost every show in the front row, it may have also been that he looked down to the contest winner and addressed her.
Afterwards, they were set for Saturday Night, but Jon changed it on the spot to Diamond Ring with Richie already having his electric guitar ready and playing the solo on it. I didn't know the song, but that bluesy solo sent shivers down my spine back then!
The crowd reacted so loudly to it that Jon decided to do Heroes as well, asking David if he had the piano sound for it ready.
After a crazy Saturday Night rendition with ad-libs and even some lines of Jersey Girl, Jon and Richie extended the song on and on at the front with Tico following them blindly and the whole band not missing a beat. Jon enthusiastically shouted "Tico, read in my mind again! He's got my back, give him the beat!" and the band straight on firing into Just Older.
Richie's I'll Be There For You rendition was amazing with him playing bluesy licks for almost a minute before "entering" the song. Tico's drum beat for Something To Believe mixed with the crowd still singing the "oooh oooh" parts in the end.
Jon had the lyric sheets for it taped onto the stage, but the crew went with spartanic lightning which had him complain into the microphone "I can't see a word up here" [1:49:28] because he didn't know how to start the song.
At the end of the Undivided, Jon cut off singing the final chorus and the whole stadium sang it back to him like it was one of their biggest hits, even though it had never even been a single.
During Rockin' All Over The World, Jon wanted to tease the crowd with his typical "they're getting tired" banter. What happened was that the back of the stadium actually started shouting the "I like it" parts so loud that it rolled back to the stage like a thunder wave and had Jon looking around like "where does it come from?"
He was so caught up in the song that he almost finished it like a full track before realizing he needed to get back to I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. He then altered the lines to "...baby, I'm a little crazy, I'm a little out of time, I got out of my mind!" [2:14:35].
In the first encore, near the end of the Captain Crash, the full moon was to be seen in the middle over the stadium. Jon noticed it, stating he lost his mind "once and for all" and then howling at the moon like a werewolf.
Jon went into a full blown band introduction and when he shouted "I ain't kidding! On the guitar, Richie Sambora!", the crowd was screaming so loud that you literally couldn't hear anything from the stage anymore! [2:46:15]
Everyone was drained (it was the hottest summer in Germany's history up until 2018 or so) and thought the show was done when, out of the dark, Jon suddenly screamed "I ain't going nowhere" and them kicking into These Days.
They literally played to the edge of exhaustion, Jon's voice was almost shot at the end of the song, but he looked to the band once and then announced with a big grin on his face: "one more song ready" before kicking into a sheer endless rendition of Twist And Shout!
