For me verses are really really good, but I just don't dig that chorus. It's flat and suffers of over-production. Its less of a hook then verses. Seems like B-side chorus pasted onto groovy rock track

https://www.loudersound.com/news/richie-sambora-i-pray

Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has released the first of four solo singles he plans to put out over the next few weeks. Produced by Bob Rock, I Pray will be followed by Livin’ Alone (May 3), Songs That Wrote My Life (May 10), and Believe (In Miracles) (May 17). And while former bandmate Jon Bon Jovi may be struggling with his voice, Sambora's vocals sound decidedly uncreaky on the upbeat and celebratory I

I wonder if he's referring to the "How does it feel like to be me but without all the money and the girls?" Or if he's referring to something else we'll never know about...

Really like it as its catchy and Richies voice is good but......that solo or lack of is almost as bad as Legendary NOT having one.
For a guy who was obviously frustrated by the lack of guitar and solos in the latter Jovi output none of RIchies stuff has kick ass solos.
Oddly i felt the same about Mick Marrs solo album the solos sucked.

If you're making simple, no effort songs like these..then no wonder you've got 100 of them sitting in your shelves in no time. This is just terrible, with the horrendous production being the #1 offender. The short solo syndrome seems to have followed Richie from his years in BJ. While it's still good because he's an awesome player, the production is again to blame. It seems like the volume knob is turned to 2/10 & Tube screamer is off. Notes die as soon as they're played. Even the overall volume is low.
No distinction from Chorus 1 to Chorus 4. Copy/Paste.

I'm excited we have new so,gs coming, and have to listen a few more times to I Pray but so far I like it. I'd prefer more proeminent guitars and less effects on the vocals but it's ok. What's up with the cover though? Surely that "BON" underneath his initials is not an accident?

I really like it. I get the issues with production and vocal effects but the songs itself is upbeat and catchy as hell. I don't get the problems with the chorus, I think it's a really strong chrous. I agree that the talkbox solo is messy - Richie was always great at very melodic solos and this isn't one of them. Overall it's got me excited for more music from him, which is the exact opposite of what Legendary did, so I'm all for it. It's fresh, new and different sounding from Richie, where as the Jovi song was just retreading the same old ground we've heard time and time again..

I just hope that after the 4 songs we get details of a full album!?

It definitely seems that he is doing this without a label this time. Which is this day and age isn't an issue.

I notice that there has been no posts about it on his Facebook page so I presume that this means he has lost access. Hopefully his team can sort this, but it should have been sorted in advance of the release. A big part of his fan base will be Facebook users.

At least we have that with Richie, the chance to be surprised. That sort of excitement has been removed from Bon Jovi songs for me. If Jon is saying Legendary is a hit, he is untrustworthy as a judge of his own songs. Although, Richie has been making big claims regarding his writing and releases this, so it is similar levels of bullshit I suppose.

Even so, yeah I am still more interested to hear Richie's songs that I am the Bon Jovi album.
