20,000 units to date. Back in '83 it probably sold 100 copies. You couldn't even purchase the album in major record stores, just select ones.

Metallica's the band that allowed "thrash metal" to be somewhat mainstream. It had a strong underground following so when Metallica made it, others followed... but that's a whole other subject
