I'd have to say Appetite For Destruction because I think it's better all the way through. Slippery has several great songs, but for me, is less good as an album.

The reason why people keep comparing these 2 bands is becuase they are probably the 2 biggest rock bands of the 80's

I have to give it to Appetite. Simply because it's nasty. Real rock n roll should have this nasty and dangerous edge. I rank Appetite as the greatest RnR record ever. Of course GnR never really topped that. It's just too bad that Axl is so messed up in the head that he can't really sustain a decent career. Whereas BJ still releases records up to now (whether the records are bad or good it's up to you, but I see this as a good thing)

I wouldn't say SWW is the melodic rock album that blew the door open for other bands like Poison... I'd say Pyromania by Def Leppard did that. Hell, if it weren't for Pyro, I guess Polygram wouldn't take a chance hooking BJ with Desmond Child.

My favorite song in the 2 albums has to be Prayer though. This song is so great I wish I'd written it.

We had a discussion recently on another BB that I frequent about "Appetite For Destruction and I will say the same thing that I said there. I think it is the single greatest album EVER! I am a bigger fan of Jovi compared to GnR but to me "A F D" is just awesome. Just my 2 cents.

12 000 000 copies in the united states isn't exactly small... (hysteria)
okay, GnR maybe did sold more albums back then, but def leppard was the first band who did as melodious rock album (just as yomamasofat said), which of course make them one of the most important rockbands during the 80', they created the "wave" of softrockers that flooded the charts during the 80'. thanks to them, we have bon jovi!
and, Axl Rose has no star-quality.

I don't even know what appetite for destruction is.....so it says that it doesn't even compare to Slippery
