Then I must have forgotten about that interviews. I believe I have followed every single post and interview I could find, but since this story has been going on for so long, and BJ isn't my only occupation in life, that's possible...

And why were they pissed off? Because he had disappointed them by walking away and in the tiny partial truths we had available they could find no good reason for his behavior.
Partially, yes. But also because he didn't apologize or it at least didn't come across as sincere. He could've simply said: "Folks, I'm terribly sorry for anyone who wanted to come out and see me play, but believe me, I've got my reasons". Or something along that line...

In adolescence, it's "boys will be boys". In the 20s and 30s, it's "sowing wild oats". In the 40s and 50s, it's "a mid-life" crisis, and after that, "a second childhood."
That's certainly true to some extent, and for a lot of boys/men, but not for all of them. Take Jon as an example of how to better behave like you're 50.

Regardless of what you call it, Richie Sambora has been a bragging, drinking, horndog trying to 'find himself' since before you were born. And for the majority of that time he's also had more money, possibilities, and opportunities than most people will have in a lifetime.
True, he's always been that way, at least to some degree. And I always couldn't make up my mind if I find the guy hilarious or embarassing. But it's gotten worse and worse over the years. He just seems so full of himself (and the booze) these days, that it's hard to take...

Quote:
As I said, people are going to believe what they want to believe. To which I'll now add, they also see what they choose to see in a given situation, which is usually heavily influenced by their expectations going in.
Good point, but not, why I'm pissed at him...

Richie's change in personality is more severe than simply saying he's always been this way and our perception shouldn't have changed. Simply the way he comes across in interviews now is just different. I don't knock him for not bringing up the band, why should he if he doesn't need to promote it/them? He's been generally civil talking about 30 years being a good run (in just about every interview ever). There WAS some interviews where he took some shots, I definitely remember that.

You're welcome.

In 2001, Jon said, "We brought a couple of friends of ours. It's probably another reason why we stay so sane, as we keep on bringing our friends out on the road with us."

Thanks so much for finding/posting this. Great read.

I wonder if Bobby upped his asking amount because he's less bothered if he comes back or not.

Either that or he knows that he's not coming back...

If Richie was still in the band, it would probably be a guarantee but let's face it, if Jon's got his balls back and wants to be in a Rock n Roll band again, having 2 monsters to replace Richie is a must... Bobby is not that guy...

Keep in mind that this is the first full tour planned without Richie. In 2103 when Richie left, Jon was lucky enough to get Phil in ASAP and he just wanted to keep thing afloat. Now that he could sit back and plan, Bobby doesn't fit anymore.

Some people consider Bobby to be the 6th member but i never did. Bobby will be Jon's KOS, Charity, Acoustic, Demo guy...

Bingo! That's what has troubled me since the beginning. It's never been that I believe Richie was right to do what he did, or that I think Jon is a lying evil bastard who forced him into an intolerable position. As you said, with only 'tiny partial truths' to go on, there's no way for anyone to know that. But using that same logic, I just can't help wondering how people can be so sure that Richie was wrong to do what he did, either
I think most people are sure he did the right thing for HIM and respect that decision, so it’s not about WHAT he did but HOW he did it. Moot point by now, really. It’s been discussed to death

Quote:
Everyone knows the undeniable truth that all we have to go on are 'tiny partial truths', yet that hasn't altered their determination, in the slightest, to go right on ahead and judge a man's character on the basis of those 'tiny partial truths' and to make up their minds - irrevocably, it seems - on the basis of those same 'tiny partial truths' that there was no justification for what he did. So, therefore, it can only follow that he has no respect for the fans, he treated them like shit, he's a spoiled brat who needs to learn his lesson, he shouldn't be allowed back in the band, he can't be relied upon, he trashed the band (when, in reality, he has said nothing - with the one exception of the 'real thing' comment - that he hasn't said countless times, almost verbatim, over the years), he was disloyal to Jon and the band, he shit on the band's legacy, he's nothing but a liability, he's only in it for the money, he never stood for his principles, he was part of the problem and never tried to do anything about it...ad infinitum as nauseum
Since you point some things I said in other threads (intentional or not, I doesn’t bother me, I pinky swear) I’ll reply to this. Again, I don’t remember who said what and the exact words, but it’s a fact that Richie has been throwing digs in interviews and concerts waaaaay after the dust had settled. As if he’s trying to convince fans that he’s the real deal, that good BJ fans have to leave the soulless machine and support him. I felt he was the one fueling the feud. It leaves ME disappointed because I really understand his reasons and I even agree, but he was also part of the problem and he can’t just pretend it was all good and fun because he was a part of it and when things started to go south it was all Jon’s fault, that all of a sudden he was only a poor unwilling participant. “His songs and my songs”. It’s absolutely unnecessary, really. And false.

That’s not really speculating or judging the man. I assure you I have nothing against Richie, I don’t know him! I wouldn’t go to one of his concerts to boo him or anything like that. If I met him tomorrow, I would say hello, hope you are doing fine and your projects go very well. That’s it, his music is not my cup of tea so I don’t buy his CDs or go to his concerts. I wish him the best in life, I’m judging him as an ex-member of BJ who can possibly return to the band. What happened matters, what he said and did matters (and also what the others said and did, it goes both ways), so I feel it’s a little more complicated than the cliffs notes version I gave to my daughter (she likes Richie and is super bummed he won’t be there when she goes to her first concert): “they had a fight and stopped being friends and if they want to, they can fix it, but if they don’t want to, that’s too bad but there’s nothing we can do”. I can’t accept Richies hypocrisy blindly, just like I have a hard time accepting some of Jon’s traits that I feel are affecting the music/band. And I point out both things.

We are really derailing the thread. Feel free to PM if you like to chat. I’m finishing a really boring paper and my brain is basically fried so I’ll leave it here.

Soooo, back on topic. Is Bobby out of the next tour? I guess we'll know when the tour starts and he's not there on the first concert

Unless a miracle happens (it won't) his vocals will be sorely missed, but I enjoyed Phil & Matt. Definitely a huge improvement.

It's a sad time in the Bon Jovi community when a Bobby topic is the center of all communications....
