You know, Jani actually said Warrant was signed because their label wanted a Bon Jovi.

I'm pretty sure this was taken at an LA show on the New Jersey tour. I'd love to see the audio of it. Jon and Jani are my two favorite singers from the hair band era.

The entertainment business has its own golden rule:

"Do unto others as others have done unto others."

ALL the record labels wanted their own Bon Jovi back then, for the same reason why all the labels want their own Beyonce now, LOL: because that's where the big money is. I even remember when it happened with The Beatles -- and I was only nine.

Suddenly, radio was flooded with "Brit Invasion" bands. At first, I rejected them as cheap ripoffs (especially those scruffy-looking Rolling Stones, LOL!). But as I aged, I found that I could like bands like The Kinks and Deep Purple and Syndicate of Sound without being "disloyal" to The Beatles.

And don't forget about the role MTV played back then! They had the power to make or break an act, and it was SO much easier to make an act that was good-looking. Indeed, the record label scouts began rejecting aspiring bands that had less than camera-friendly members. The original bassist for New Jersey's Trixter was declared "too tall," while Vinnie Vincent was almost done recording his second solo album when his record label mysteriously decided that his singer sucked, and was replaced with (the younger and cuter) Mark Slaughter.

Now, here's your reward for reading all that -- a pic of Jani no one has ever seen before. I took it at a club in New York City:

Nice pic of Jani. I'll have to send my BFF this way to see it. She's a big Jani fan.

I sure have never seen these pictures. They come from an article in my Facbook feed called Vintage photos of rock, pop and soul in N.J. Here is the link if you want to see all the pictures:

Richie:

Richard Stephen “Richie” Sambora is pictured at the far left in this photo of the band “Horizon” taken in Woodbridge in 1976.

Individuals posting on the Facebook page “Things That Aren’t There Anymore” identify the other band members as, from left, Steve Hudak, Ray Ruiz, Joe Rapetti and John Slevin.

Friends of the band members recall Horizon jamming in basements and competing in “Battle of the Bands” competitions at Woodbridge High School, as well as playing at the school’s Junior Cotillion in 1976.

Sambora, according to songkick.com, was born in Perth Amboy and raised in Woodbridge, graduating from Woodbridge High School in 1977. His professional career included a stint with the band Mercy, touring with Joe Cocker and auditioning for Kiss. Sambora was selected as Bon Jovi’s lead guitarist in 1983.

Bobby:
