i m optimistic about the site, looks cool and in a strange way i like the lay out because even if it is confusing it leads into finding "easter eggs"..
I like the video, pro shot stuff, i hope we get more and more especially from the 90s.. the video quality has improved but the sound quality seems that could be better...i realise there were technical restrictions in the 80s videowise, i hope we ll get a couple of shows pro shot with soundboard qlt.

The problem is that if these tapes have been in storage since then, they may have become damanged over time, so they may no longer exist. Or maybe they have lost them, or just haven't come across them yet. I'm sure it's a mammoth task groing through all of this stuff!

I had heard many years ago from an inside source that, for decades, no proper measures had been taken in terms of climate controlled storage etc. with these old video tapes. Hence a number of them having been damaged one way or another. There's also the rumour that Hammersmith 1990 has degraded to a state that can't be rescued because of that.

This actually makes me want to cry....but would explain why it's never seen the light of day.

I know Shooting Star was released on one of the Sirius XM specials, but that will exist elsewhere as it was used in Access All Areas and on the heavily edited radio broadcast.

There was a separate audio mixdown for radio, so some might exist. God knows if the full show was mixed that way. The video you see on AAA is, I believe, mostly filmed on stage by Wayne Isham with his camera for the documentary and very little of the "stage cameras". That was to be seen on the Blood On Blood performance they put up from Guadalajara. We all knew Jon's intro speech and it became clear that the angle we see on AAA was the one done by Wayne whereas the stage camera was filming him from the other side.

No Way! I don't believe any of this. I can see a slight loss in quality from an A+ to an A- (maybe). But not to the point of an A to an F. We saw a picture of the vault and all that material was stored on the shelves. It was enormous and then Jon recently stated in an interview that he was a hoarder and everything was in his basement (I'm assuming the basement in his NJ mansion) which I'm sure is fine. It's not like they were in some dingy warehouse. I found VHS tapes in my parent's basement that play the same way they did 30 years ago. Plus the video from Giants '89 was beautiful so I'm not buying anything about climate control. It's not like these things go back to the 50s. It's the late 80's / early 90s before digital took over.

I spoke to Obie about Hammersmith. He's got it and said he can't release it because it was recorded on the floor (I guess all on one track so he can't mix it) but that was 8 years ago. Now it would fit perfectly into this project.

Climate control absolutely can degrade audio/visual tapes if not stored properly. If they're subjected to extreme humidity or cold it eats away at it. A house basement doesn't really come close to a makeshift storage area in a warehouse. .

Just a little bit of info: "What are optimal conditions? Cool, dry, climate-controlled environments; better to have tapes stored in the house at room temperature than in a wet basement, garage, or hot attic. Heat and humidity are the leading causes of VHS deterioration. If your tapes have been stored near a magnetic field--such as a stereo speaker--the signal loss can be more significant" https://nostalgicmedia.com/blogs/med...vhs-tapes-last There's a bunch of sites that back this up.

FWIW I've heard the same things about how bad a job they did in the past catalouging and keeping things in good condition

That's really cool... A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA is most likely the song we all deemed as "In America"

And I'm pretty sure this leaked and most of us have this.

Obie himself said in a radio interview in 2010 for the Special Editions release that a good portion of their tapes had been damaged by water/flooding and that he was experimenting with techniques to recover some of that material. A video of Hammersmith exists and in 2014, rumours came up that Jon refused to pay for the restoration 'cause it would've needed extensive and expensive work. They may still have that mixdown, but their captures never were consistent in quality.
Sirius XM shows that with some mixes (Istanbul 2011 as a negative example), the NJ tour videos have all been recorded at different sound volumes, basically killing two out of the three. If they have front-of-the-house-recordings, someone would need to sit down and dub them to the footage they have.
