Yeah, but Nielsen Music (formerly known as Soundscan) formed in 1991. That total can't include possibly include the 21 million albums Bon Jovi sold
before then. The total U.S. album sales is probably closer to
35 million.
As for the "sour note," I think that was struck when Mercury decided that without the member who as much to do with Bon Jovi's profitability as Jon did, only Jon's publishing rights were of any value to them. (They probably weren't crazy about Jon's attempt to run off to go play pro football owner, either.)
