Compression in this context is referring to compression of dynamic range and peak limiting of CDs due to the music being mastered at high volumes. Or the "loudness war" as it's commonly known. It's affected the majority of albums of all genres (not just rock/metal albums) since I'd say the early/mid 90s.

Every new Bon Jovi album since Crush and all the remasters are compresses to hell so you'll find very little (if any) difference between the crush and gh versions of it's my life.

The only Bon Jovi albums that have any dynamic range are the original non-remastered versions of the first four albums, blaze of glory and stranger in this town. Keep the faith was the first album where things started to get louder and these days a bit more.

I would love to hear anything from keep the faith onwards with full dynamic range.
