What's wrong with the chorus that needs a fix?

Compression aside, which isn't unique to this song, the sound and mood of the song is very good imo.

Agreed. I actually really like Jon's voice on the chorus.

This is probably my favorite Bon Jovi song since Love's The Only Rule. Teardrop comes close, but there's something about this song I absolutely adore.

The atmosphere was interesting, but the song never takes off. The lyrics are super repetitive and a total rehash of bon jovi tropes, nothing interesting. Vocalwise you can really tell there ain't much gas left in those pipes. And the chorus is plain bad.

All in all, a really forgettable song.

3.541747221 / 10

It is with deep regret that i feel exactly the same about this song. Exactly. Nothing to add. If this song makes the set in stadiums and arenas it will be a recordbreaking snoozefest.

In this song it becomes painfully clear that :
- Richie is missed big time
- Jon's voice is gone : up till this album he was able to hide his vocal limitations pretty well but on this song it is obvious.
- Low key songwriting just is no match with Bon Jovi but it is all they have left

A positive note though : the moody guitar is great. Until the singing starts, the song starts great.

It's only when I listen to it with headphones that there's something that's bugging me about it. I like Jon's voice in the verses and I don't think that the production is nearly as bad (compression aside) as on Knockout, but there's just something that holds the chorus back. To me it feels as if the chorus doesn't flow with the rest of the song since, the moment it comes in, Jon's voice goes from being really enjoyable to being a lot more doctored and there's much more reverb thrown onto it. That kind of annoys me since it feels a bit like they had the chorus from another session (which probably happens quite a few times), but had worked with a different mastering approach and not really cared to make it sound like one song. It kills the vibe of the song a bit.

Very small suggestion I'm making her but does anyone else think that 'give everything I've got, it's never enough' would have been better than 'give everything I've got, I can't get enough'??

I almost go to sing it every time I listen.

The first verse-chorus transition is very noticeable, second time you have already get used to it and it doesn't detract from the song as much IMO.

I guess they are trying to give more oomph to the chorus, since they seem to think that Jon's voice is not strong enough. The second part of the chorus is not as *bad*, so who knows what they had in mind. To me his voice can carry the whole song without any effects, but judging from many comments here it really needs the extra help.
