since they are demoing and recording in the studio there must be a guitarist otherwise its gonna be too simplistic guiatrwise atleast. i thought phil x was recording and promoting a drills album, not that he couldnt combine the two but from hughs interview i got the feeling they werent demoing/playing together, who knows?
in an ideal world i d like the old richie back. the new richie who all of a sudden thinks he is an indie artist/fashion designer and everything not so much...even if he returned quickly their relationship seems too damaged at the moment and much more time is needed.
i d love to see a guitarist like philip sayce, or sth like that with bon jovi. phil x did a great job but imo he isnt the right replacement

They could do a lot different now the old style of singles release doesn't really happen these days, and Bon Jovi wouldn't chart anyway.

Do what Muse did, get some lyric videos out early doors and get fans familiar with 4 or 5 songs by the time the album comes out and they would be better received.

An article about the Malaysia show called it part of the Because We Can tour. But I think it's still possible they'll play at least one new song, maybe a few.

For what it's worth, I doubt Phil will have much if any influence on the album either way. I really don't think he'll do any writing. It'll be interesting to see who Jon's main collaboration partner will be, though. On the last record, it was Shanks and Billy Falcon. I like Billy's writing, but he's even more of a open chord-writer than Jon is.
Yeah, I guess that seems more like the indie route to go since Lifehouse also made the move to indie labels, but The Offspring are planning an album, it's just gonna take until next year to release it and they had to tour this summer. Still, it would be a cool way for the band to go forward and test the waters. Regarding Phil, if he is featured on the new album his input will be just the same as it was on 'What do you Got', he came in, laid down his parts and left, just like any session musician would do. He's a part of the touring machine but Jon will be very careful and no one wants to even give the illusion that Richie has been fully replaced....

Why not bring BB King back from the grave? Sayce is way too flashy to be in Bon Jovi. Plus - he's a blues player, not a rock player. Phil X plays the parts, doesn't shine, doesn't suck, perfect. A bit like Hugh McDonald. Am guessing David Bryan and Tico will be getting a bit more spotlight going forward but no way in the world can I ever imagine Jon bringing on a guitarist who in fact could outshine Richie (such as Sayce). Not going to happen.

If I had a choice, I'd get someone like Steve Lukather or Paul Gilbert or Vivian Campbell. But...never ever going to happen.

that would be an interesting thread for guitar fans at least...if richie had to be replaced which guitarist would fit/be the appropriate player to compliment the band? for me would be satriani...i am not a huge fan but he is a virtuso who plays for the song, most of the times, so some renditions would be great imo

Satriani wouldn't fit at all. Haven't you heard Chickenfoot? Does that sound like BJ-brand rock tracks to you?

Richie plays like Richie and that's his biggest asset. Well, used to be, anyway. Richie Kotzen might be a good fit thanks to his vocal ability, but I doubt Jon would want somebody who used to be in Poison in Bon Jovi.

But really, it doesn't matter. There's no way a big name would get that slot, as the very job demands to not steal any spotlight.

chickenfoot soundwise are not so far away than bon jovi imo, richie kotzens may fit better though. i said if sambora had to be replaced for the sake of the argument, of course i dlike richie in bj...i dont think though all these super technical guitarists would steal the spotlight, richies voice and persona were big a guy who plays out of this world would probably have no space to really shine, or sound off without singing etc,

The real question is: what high qualiber guitarist would accept to play in Bon Jovi? And the answer is: only one who's in the red!

Satch playing for BJ? You must be kidding! He played with Mick Jagger (solo tour) and for Deep Purple, he's very well respected by the guitar community and has artistic credibility, there's no way he would accept such a job!

When you see that Nuno Bettencourt toured with Rihanna you might want to look through the big names from the 80s... oh and the "what ever happened to Vito Bratta?" saga continues of course!

I'm pretty sure Nuno has more of a say concerning the live arrangements for Rihanna than he'd get for Bon Jovi.
