Was Stay from the Sex Sells sessions or originally intended for Crush? Not hearing all that much of a late 90s radio hit in One Wild Night

Sex Sells sessions. They played it at the listening party for it:

Dominik and his channel to the rescue, as always! Man, I sure hope the rumors about a new box set turn out to be true. There's still gems they've never officially released so far.

Oh, sorry, I meant when they brought Desmond in for the first time for Slippery. They needed a hit single back then as well, but I guess bringing in a songwriter who’s also worked with other big rock acts is a lot easier on the ego than bringing in the guy who usually writes for the pop acts you look down on.

Sex sells would have been a solid 3rd solo album.

I don't think Stay was ever intended to be on Crush if the solo band recording is what made it to the b-sides and not a band recorded one. Bobby's playing is unmistakeable in this one and he has some stellar backing vocals. I laugh every time I see a Youtube Comment on Stay saying "Sigh, I miss Richie and when they sang together like this" "....."

I mean, they could have re-recorded, maybe even re-written it. It probably felt a little too tried and true though.

Anything is possible, yeah. With the breadth of songs, I'd love to know which of Jon's solo songs also got the Real Life/I Got The Girl treatment. Is there a band version of Life's Too Short, etc. I wish more stuff was documented from those sessions.

Me too! Jon's and the band's sessions and eventually Bruce Fairbairn's session where he produces Real Life... At this time, Sex Sells was still the working title and appears in the Real Life's video.

On the box set, Rich man living in a poor man's house was one of those solo tracks, i guess.

I still hope a band version of Life's Too Short on the next box set... Call me a dreamer...

Yeah! The actual band had nothing to do with: Rich Man, Crazy Love, River Runs Dry, These Arms..., I get a rush, Last chance Train, Kidnap an Angel. Shut Up and Kiss me is a wildcard since it's a Samobra co-write but Jon recorded it with his solo band. Most of the Crush B-Sides are solo recordings masked as band tracks.
