I agree. But with every subsequent it's been getting worse. On their first 8-ish records it was the odd silly lyric here or there. Now it's entire songs and albums sounding ridiculous due to the subject matter either being way too on the nose or being nothing but a vague set of metaphors to convey a supposed serious message.

A song like Something to Believe In has ridiculous lyrics (if I don't believe in heroin, how can I believe in dope), but they work due to the instrumentation and Jon's abilities as a vocalist. Jon has neither one now, both have been stripped from the final product, hence nothing else is there to save the weaknesses of the songs. Even if he wanted to write about something he's angry with he no longer has the tools to convey the message so you get ridiculous alternate vocal lines like the one for Work for the Working Man.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Well I wasn't looking to remind anyone of anything was just commenting on the lyrics. Anyway obviously there is a pitch count on this sort of thing and I've passed it. I shall make sure my next post is a positive one about the new material.

I'm just wondering what made you join the board. It's more common that people become fans or find the board because they like the music. I don't remember your initial posts here, rather then reopening ancient threads, but now I feel you've found comfortable place among people who dislike everything. I just can't see how that can make anyone happy. If it works for you, good. I can always skip anyone's posts.

And don't get me wrong. I don't ask anyone to be positive. I love when discussions revolve around interesting topics and people bring their perspectives. However, some people have become quite tiring, unable letting go of certain topics discussed in almost all threads to death, writing their long analyses and almost always comining to conclusions that everything is bad now.

I've had my fair share of overanalysing their every move, of being overly critical. Many of the band's decisions still hurt and I can imagine just everything to be better - as I've idealised it in my head beforehand. It just doesn't work this way.

My thoughts exactly. I basically left Twitter because it is a ****in' toxic place in terms of Bon Jovi fans and by now, I skip most of the posts here as well because of the endless repetitions as well since it becomes so tiring.

I don't think you're getting what me and a few others are saying. Once you openly said you won't watch the doc and won't listen to anything from the new album because you know it's going to be bad that said a lot. Why take the time out of your day in a thread about the new album. Youd think it wouldn't interest your or anyone who already knwos they don't like this era of the band.

Though I really want to touch on the "I personally don't have an issue with any of the lyrics prior to Crush" comment because my god have they had some stinkers of lines pre-Crush. Difference is Jon could deliver the hell out of it and the power and passion just made you forget he sang "I'd hold you / I'd need you / I'd get down on my knees for you". It's so damn weak BUT my god he sings it.

Same here, I’ve mostly just been skimming over most of the posts here or skipping them entirely these past few weeks because it’s just the same old over and over again. I like a good discussion, but at this point it feels like everything is just going in circles in most of the threads on here and it’s not worth reading all that just to maybe filter out a more interesting post in between.

yea, I'm not gonna watch the doc, I never said I wasn't gonna listen to the new album though. I believe I said I hope I'm wrong about my expectations for it. I don't believe I'm the only one in this thread with low expectations for the album due to the recent output. I feel I've been replying to people quoting me on this stuff, I don't think too often I just made a random post for no reason on the recent era. I know there are some though. I believe that was the first time I mentioned the lyrics on 2020 and that was due to the thread shifted to lyrics.

I never once thought the lyrics for In These Arms were horrible, but maybe you're right I like them because of Jon's vocal delivery of those lyrics.

Lyrically you look at something like....Nobody's Hero!

When all faith is gone, I will pray for you
Just keep holding on, I'll be there for you

I can confidently say those lyrics are as cliche and by the book as some of the worst lyrics of the last 3 albums. But NH stomps the hell all over the new stuff. That remaining oomph was Jon's strong voice with Richie behind it and both are selling the heck out of it. I think current BJ has regressed but the way people go in on them as if BJ isn't known for cliche lyrics is wiiiiild stuff.

It's ok to me, looks like a beautiful song, but I don't relate to the subject so I guess it won't do much for me.

Anyhow... Living Proof's snippet is still on repeat in my head!
