Thumbs down

Well, Jon is definitely talking openly about Hugh playing on the albums now. But I have to say that this interview leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't see the point in putting Alec down at this point. The guy isn't here to defend himself and all it serves to do it tarnish Alec's legacy futher. There's no need for it in my opinion, the guy hasn't even really been gone that long.

If it is true, I have no problem with him saying this.

What and how he says it at 0:33 cca. confirmed it for me what was up. No need to even write it explicitly

Jesus, people keep whining for years that "they never talk about what happened" and then he addresses it and the whining continues. Simply because it might tarnish their memory of the glory days?
Yeah, Alec had an amazing stage presence going by people that saw him, but one just has to listen to live recordings to realize they made another step when Hugh came on. Once they returned for KTF, he didn't seem to be able to properly keep up with the pace any longer. Was it because of his heavy motorcycle accident inbetween? Because of the decades of hard partying catching up? No one knows, but I don't think anything unfair was said here and certainly not really different from what Jon and Richie had said in "Behind The Music" over 20 years ago already.

Eh, the backing vocals took a huge hit once Alec left. Hugh is clearly the better bass player, but I wouldn't say they straight up became better live once he was in the picture either.

Agreed, the music foundation became more steady. But the vocals started to degrade all over the band from the mid-90's onwards anyway

I wasn't whining. In my book there's just no need to speak ill of the dead. If Jon and Richie were to go at it, I'm all for it because they are both still here to defend themselves if they choose to. Jon has spouted so much shit over the years, excuse me if I don't like the idea of him trashing his dead "friend"...It was just unnecessary, nobody gains anything from it. What a joke "the brotherhood" really was....

What we as hardcore fans know is not the same as what joe public knows, but also he's never publicly suggested that there was substance abuse either, so yes he absolutely is...

No one was clamouring for more information on the Alec split. Richie yes, Alec no. After his death it's in bad taste and was completely unnecessary, in my opinion.

If talking - even in a negative way - about people who are dead is poor taste, thousands of documentaries would never have been made. I mean, when you are literally documenting history you are likely to at some point talk about people who have gone, and even discuss their flaws.

Jon does not need to discuss it in the media perhaps. But for me the documentary itself is fair game, on the condition that it is willing to spotlight the flaws of all involved and not just throw people under the bus. If Jon's account of Alec is an accurate document then it should be in there. There are plenty of other people close to the situation who can confirm or deny Jon's version.
