Although he is able to sing in the less demanding environment of the studio – Bon Jovi’s 16th album, Forever, is out in June – the rigours of live performance are currently beyond him. But he seems to have made a certain peace with it. “I think that’s fair to say. If I can’t, then I won’t. I won’t talk [instead of singing] or change the keys of the songs.”

A lot of rock stars of his vintage do, though. “I cannot. That’s just my choice.”
This kind of stuff that makes him look bad. He is changing songs for over two decades. He played the spoken TLFR versions of Always, IBTFY and Bed Of Roses for 4 years. There is no need to lie.

Publicly it's never been said the TLFR versions were done to change the key and make them easier to sing though. I don't think he's lying if we are refering to those. What HE is lying about is last tour the songs were lowered a full step. But it's also true that he's saying he'd rather not tour than have to do that again. I guess we'll see the next time they perform live if the keys are still dropped.

Does anyone know if the Limitless performance was half a step down or what?

There are also thoughts on web that TLFR project was made because Jon didn't like too much his performance in Yokohama that should had become an official dvd concert.

In general i really enjoy those performance in Japan 2003, Jon had a particular tonality very acute, but i really enjoy also TLFR.

"Take me to the C" has been a very dry sea for ages, and keep in mind that The Radio Saved My Life Tonight has been sung an octave lower ever since 2004.

I am team "there is no need to lie, this just makes him look bad".

I hear the points, yeah, I just think we are interpreting differently. There a handful of songs that were tweaked to make them possible to sing (hell, In These Arms had its key change one tour after it was released). I think that's acceptable versus an entire tour of every song dropped a full note. THATS what he's referring to never wanting to do

It feels like the tour was supposed to have more dates that got pulled after his voice blew again.

He's not lying because he's not referring to the studio albums. He means changing the keys (again) from the way he's been performing them live over the past 20-30-40 years.

I'm always pondering the question if he genuinely knew his voice was declining that much since 2002. The TLFR versions seemed a conscius choice from the beginning. That thing he said about Dorothea having to open his eyes was really weird.

After all, I probably knew where this was leading to. The WWWB documentary didn't show this man taking care of his voice at all, instead it just showed the CEO of a major corporation. I guess it didn't go unpunished, right?

This is an interesting take. What makes you think the WWWB doc didn't show him taking care of his voice? I kind of remember a few clips of of him warming up his voice and using some pre-show tecniques but I also don't know what should have been showed.

I think it'd be wild if he didn't know is voice was failing. He's openly said that it started in 2013 and with the last tour the band tuning a further half step down, that takes time to prepare. All the vocal samples either had to be re-recorded or just digitally tuned down. Either way, enough work had to go into it that him not realizing it until END of tour is such a marketing thing to say.
