Instead we have a producer with delusions of grandeur aspiring to be The Edge on record and on stage. Someone needs to ask Jon why Phil isn't the outright, lead guitar player in both instances. The doc made it sound as though he is but we know the THINFS solo they talked up isn't him.

Shanks must be quite the ego if he is handling solos over Phil X. I guess Jon is sort of leading that charge because I honestly think Jon has no interest in solos. But I also think if Shanks told him we should get Phil in to do the solos, we would have had some crackers over the years.
I have been watching a lot of Phil X videos on YouTube and he is a great player, and also has some unique traits. His interview with Rick Beato was an eye-opener into his playing. He still lacks the feel and tone of Sambora, but stomps all over him in terms of knowledge and technique. The former falls to the latter when live and playing Sambora's solos, but creating new music in the studio would be interesting. Jon has a monster player and never lets him loose.
