Doesn't it make sense to have spread them out hypothetically looking into the future assuming there wouldn't have been a break in the band lineup by releasing What About Now when it was released? Otherwise, the band would have been completely exhausted NOW because they would be on a tour supporting whatever album that quickly came out after a later-released-later-toured What About Now.
None of us knows Jon's contract and the details, but I don't think they would've needed to do 2 big tours for remaining albums. Since they obviously only had to deliver one record with new tracks (the record company didn't really care about Burning Bridges either in my book), they could've started on What About Now and then have their label release BB while being on tour, maybe incorporate one or two new songs into the set and tour on the back of both. They had done similar stuff with Crossroad leading into These Days, Crush leading into One Wild Night and The Circle leading into Greatest Hits. Each time the lines were blurred and the band just kept on touring on the name of whatever was the current release at each point.

Hopefully it's set-up in a way that we fans regard as nice. If it's from Jon's point of view I fear we won't get any of this...

Well, but in any case the reason of the split wasn't about their relationship (I believe?), more about the band and Richie's discontentment with all.
I think.
Haha. I can't believe some people still buy the whole Richie and Jon best buds myth.

I'm pretty sure no one in the band ever even really liked Jon. Just watch access all areas to see Jon was the boring loner in the band. Jon is clever though so contrived the whole blood brothers shtick to utilise the blue collar everyman appeal the band were generating.

Burning Bridges is by all accounts a new album with new songs. The songs were newly recorded and the songs weren't released before on any other format, so yes they delivered 2 albums. The fact that it wasn't promotes properly and wasn't treated with the same care as the other albums falls more on Jon's shoulders than the record company's...

It'd depend on the promotional team, which I assume was the label? It sounds like the band didn't want it to come out and the label needed something. It's baffling why a totally new album was the product they went with. A throw away live album or random collection of songs seems like it would make more sense if they're working on a new album. I don't know that I blame the band for not putting the care into promoting the album if it were up to them.

I'd always assumed BB was released because the deal for Jon's solo album (which did not come to be) or promotional plans for the "proper" new album, or even just negotiations for after the final album for Island did not go akin to Jon's expectations. It didn't seem so much like they had to release the album NOW, due to the label's demand, but that they wanted OFF the label for the actual new album. (Worked out really well, I gotta say.)

They rather obviously had deadlines in the early 2000s... 2000 Crush, 2001 OWN, 2002 Bounce, 2003 TLFR, 2004 TLFR DVD, 2004 Boxset, 2005 HAND. Hell, 2006 still saw the release of a tour EP sold exclusively at Walmart.

Good point. I always wondered if there had to be a release every year. 2007 was LH, Live dvd 2008, Circle 2009, Greatest hits 2010. I guess there wasn't much between that and WAN. Maybe it wasn't coincidence.

That's not so strange. Other bands do the same, even take more concerts on DVD or CD. The only complaint I can make about this is that Jon not made sure to release a DVD of every tour to have everything documented, other bands like U2 or Metallica ensure this. It would have been great to have a live dvd of each album.

Anyway, we can not complain, good if we can, but Jon has been generous on many occasions.

1984 - Bon Jovi
1985 - 7800
1986 - SWW
1988 - NJ
1990 - ACCESS (VHS)
1992 - Keep The Faith
1993 - An Evening (VHS)
1994 - Crossroad
1995 - These Days
1996 - Live From London (VHS)
2000 - Crush
2000 - Crush Tour (DVD)
2001 - One Wild Night
2002 - Bounce
2003 - Bounce B-Sides (EP)
2003 - TLFR
2004 - TLFR Live (DVD)
2004 - Box Set
2005 - Have A nice Day
2006 - Live From Boston (EP)
2007 - Lost Highway
2007 - Lost Highway The Concert (DVD)
2008 - Lost Highway The Concert (CD)
2009 - The Circle + documentary film
2009 - Live from Madison Square Garden (Bluray)
2010 - Special Tour Edition with live tracks
2010 - GH vol2 + 5 new songs
2011 - Inside Out (from Itunes)
2013 - What About Now
2014 - New Jersey Deluxe Edition with 15 bonus tracks
2015 - Burning Bridges
2016 - This House Is Not For Sale

I especially want to emphasize the great material released in singles and EP.
