By all means, live in the now, RDK! But you better step on it, because if you're waiting' on me, buddy, you're backing up.
You have to understand that there is also something called common sense so yes, some opinions can be backed-up with factual evidence...

Jon might have never stated that he likes Italian Food but if you see him dining at the finest ones in Manhattan once a week eating spaghetti and meatballs with chicken parm and lasagna, one's opinion can be backed up by factual evidence and that's what we do here (that Italian story was totally made up bty)...

I agree that we should move. In all fairness this is not the Jackie thread which it is turning into...

And I have no idea what your last line means with 'backing up' nor do I want to know so please don't respond with an explanation...

It wasn't first BJ video recorded in Beethlehem, because they already recorded videos for "Bed of Roses" and "If I Was Your Mother" during New Year's Eve show at Stabler Arena in Beethlehem on December 31st, 1992.
Thanks for the research! It must have been a cold day in June

Hey, guys, I'm calling a halt to my participation in this thread until I watch the video. If I have anything to add at that time, I'll post it then. I apologize for all the OT posts. When I originally posted I had no idea that it would lead ppl down a rabbit hole, and it's only fair that since I started it, however unintentionally, it's up to me to put a cover over that sucker!

If anybody wants to continue to discuss any of my comments, I'll be happy to do so, but let's do it thru PM since most of what I've been responding to is ppl taking exception to what they think I've said because they incorrectly assume that I'm being critical of the band or that I'm upset that they would dare to do a video without Richie in it (which is just ludicrous). It has nothing to do with the subject of this thread and that's not fair to the people who ARE discussing the video.

That said, I would also ask that if you do want to continue a discussion, even in PMs, please do me the courtesy of reading the ****ing post first and respond to THAT, instead of jumping to the conclusion that you already know what I've said or assuming that I meant something different. Trust me, I have a pretty good command of the English language and have no problem saying exactly what I mean. If you actually read what I've already posted you may discover that whatever it is that you want to debate has already been covered, anyway.

Thanks a bunch!

Everybody else, have fun with it! I'm outta here...

I watched it again and still don't get the hype but man, Jon looks very good. I don't want to sound superficial, it's not about the looks but the attitude and it's been too long since he seemed to enjoy the album-tour cycle and it dragged the band down.
He looked so busted with the ratty blond hair in 2013, it really made him look ten years older. And at the end of the tour he looked like a truck ran over him, even if the unthinkable didn't happen the band didn't seem to be in a good place before, during and after the last album

Now Jon looks happy, healthy and comfortable in his skin in this video which I suspect is making people love it more than it deserves but I don't care, I think it's fvcking great for him, the band and the fans. He looks more rockstar now than he did in the ridiculous million BWC videos.

I know they are peddling the brotherhood angle again and us cynics are like "OK whatever", but whether it's for show or a real thing, the video gives a fun band vibe that's been sorely missing for the past 10 years. There's some warmth in it. You can't fake every single gesture, they aren't professional actors.

So videoclip as it is gets a 6 from me, but it's the most genuine thing they've done in a long time so a fat 10 for the effort.

PS: why do people complain about the terrible cliché lyrics but praise the video when the video is nothing more than a visual translation of the lyrics with the subtlety of a ten zillion bricks? Except for the band shots, the rest is instantly forgettable and I've watched it enough times for my goldfish memory to remember it by now

Beautifully put. I don't know why there has to be about 42 posts in this thread to the contrary.

I really enjoy the song and I really enjoy the video. It's the happiest I've seen the band looking in a long time and I do think they look like a band, a unit, and like they're solid. You can't really fake that. They're not all trained actors. The video seems perfect for the song. I think they all look like rock legends in the clip. They just exude this, "we're cooler than cool" vibe.

finally the voice of reason! Whatever you think of the song or video, you have to admit the band looks good and happy! It shows the band has moved on and is embracing the new and future, whatever it will be, let's be honest jon could really care what people say about him or his career, he is in control.

There really is little need to bring Richie into this. Does this mean every single thing Bon Jovi does from now on will lead to some posters tying it to Richie? That's going to get pretty tedious. Ideas that this video somehow attacks Richie in parts are tenuous, especially if those ideas come from someone who hasn't even watched the video.

Richie left the band. I think its naive and ignorant to think that the rest of the band should then simply throw away their professional lives and call it a day. Of course they should be allowed to carry on. Equally, of course they should be allowed to carry on as Bon Jovi. Why would Jon throw away a brand that he worked harder than anyone (this is pretty undisputed) to build? It's a nonsense idea in terms of business, art, pride, and common sense.

Finally, the video. I guess I like it more than the song. I mentioned in another thread that it has energy, something the BWC clip lacked. It's clearly well shot, I think the director has a reputation for being good, and yeah the band looks happy. If they are acting happy fine, but it's the best acting they've done in a video since the Lost Highway era then.

Okay, I’ve watched the video and I agree that I was concerned over nothing. I don’t see anything in this video that wasn’t in any of the videos from recent years. The primary focus is still on Jon, not the band; which is appropriate, given the line “I set each stone and I hammered each nail.” Even the creepy house wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. (Although when the roots shifted for a moment I have to admit I kinda freaked, thinking they were going to start slithering like snakes.)

I agree that Phil’s integration into the band was respectfully and tastefully done. I don’t see whatever it was I thought I might see, based on Rosa3's comment “I have to confess when I saw Jon pointing to Phil during his guitar solo, I don’t want to say it was a dig at Richie at all, but …” since the video didn’t even show Phil’s face at the time.

I'm afraid I can't agree that it demonstrates the shift in band dynamic that I hoped it would based on others' comments. IMO, it reinforces that it’s still Jon + the hired guns; not a band. The non-performance shots still draw a line between Jon and the other guys. The performance shots are the only ones that show the entire band together and, even then, the only one Jon makes eye contact with is David once or twice. It doesn't seem to promote a gang image at all to me; so at least they’re not playing that up as a promotion angle like I feared they might be from what others had said. Clearly, I should never read comments before listening to new songs or watching new videos.

Someone said the band looked happy, but I can’t see it. David, in particular, looks angry to me; but I guess that’s because of the aggressive stance that the song is promoting. In fact, throughout the video, the only one who actually looks happy to me is Phil; and that’s during the performance shots. He just seems to be a happy guy in general, though, so that’s not surprising.

As with the comments immediately following the release of BB when everyone was saying how fresh the sound was and how it sounded more rock, I guess ppl are seeing what they hope or expect to see in this video, too.

The only thing that bothered me about the video had nothing to do with either the band or the song. It was the fact that the film needed to be better synched with the song, especially after the bridge. The words they’re mouthing in the video are so far off from the song that it’s distracting. I’m sure that’s more of a production thing, though, so it’s no reflection on the band.

Overall, other the synching issue, I liked it. It fits with the message of the song. The band's look is fresh and has a rock vibe, without trying to seem younger than they are. There seems to be more energy than in previous videos. I do wish they would have used the same car in the cover picture and the video, though. I think that would have been a cool touch.
