Can somebody please explain this argument to me. I see it here over and over again, but I seriously don't get it. Maybe it's just because I don't have an aversion to pop-rock, or pop music of any kind for that matter; but I just don't see a difference in any of their hits that would classify them in any other category.

To me, pop music is anything that would have made it to a Top 40s list in the old radio format (think Casey Kasem's America's Top 40). When has Bon Jovi ever released a single that didn't have that kind of "pop" sound?

They haven't. It's what Bon Jovi have always been, a commercial rock band first. Though Dry County was released as a single but that I think is the exception.

Thanks, crashed. I thought it was just me and that I must be missing something.

I definitely agree that this song should have been the 1st single and they (the record company) should really have pushed to get it in heavy rotation. Who's to say it would have worked, but it would have had a good shout.

It’s not about EDM (which I like, btw) or about rock bands doing dance-y tunes (nothing new at all, and I really like Queen’s “A Kind of Magic” a lot and it’s basically the same, an electropop tune with guitars). It’s about the quality of the output and whether it comes from an honest place or just trying desperately and too transparently to chase fads. LTOR and No Apologies are in the same vein and were waaaay more subtler, which didn’t detract from the songs at all, in fact I like them A LOT thanks to the modern touch they have. And NA was a single, so they were not hiding this kind of experimenting. I also remember NA being almost universally hated here and in many other forums. I don’t understand why since it has pretty good lyrics and a better blend of dance-y vibe and guitars. And it was fantastic live.

Once you get past the absolute shock of hearing they really went there, the lyrics are not half bad which I appreciate. Same as I appreciate variety and experimentation, I know I shouldn’t like Crush since it’s not my kind of music at all, but it’s a well thought album and it flows excellently and surprisingly works for me. I also like how HAND blends different styles and offers a fresher pop-rock (again, a type of music I’m not very fond of) that fits the band. But this time they went too far, the excessive EDM vibes not only don’t fit the song but are bad, too over the place. I’d rather hear Green Day’s “Bored to Death” remix. Same idea, much better result.

And also, what’s about EDM being a 21st thing? IDK in the US, but dance music and DJ were wildly popular in Europe since at least the 90s. We were punk-rockers and ravers back then, strange combo hehe. I’d even say their popularity is declining nowadays even though DJs are more recognizable (just check how many hugely popular disco clubs are closing down or on the verge of doing so). So newsflash Jon, it’s not a new trend, too late to jump on the bandwagon now and be called an innovator. If the EDM touch was more subtle, I'd agree with everybody else. I feel like it's just a desperate attempt to stay afloat and it would have worked better if it was more toned down.

The live version wasn’t too bad though. Because guitars, obviously

Don't agree at all. I don't think this is Bon Jovi trying to jump on a trend any more than they've ever done and if you tone it down it becomes a mid tempo song like anything off of What About Now. It's the bounciest song they've done in a long time and I love it for that. I love the guitars in the studio version too. It's brash, loud and upbeat and anthemic....which is something I've always loved in the big Jovi songs.

I much prefer the studio version. Live, it was pretty samey to my ears.

Are you just trying to make every post longer than the last one? Every reply is like an essay...

I think it’s a wasted opportunity, but I really don’t mind the song. I did the first time, but it’s ok now. What I like is that it seems to be bringing back old fans. I thought it would be the more polarizing song but there’s a general consensus and it’s positive. More than all the TC, GH and WAN singles combined so it’s a huge step in the right direction.

I’m going to state the obvious, why don’t you ignore my posts? No hard feelings man, I’m very pragmatic so if I don’t like a poster for whatever reason, I tend not to read the posts or skip them most of the times. I don’t even bother ignoring since I really don’t have anything against that person....

If you insist in keep reading my posts, I’ll have to do a TL;TR version for you. Which’ll make the post longer BTW
