Look, I have never bitched about Jon years ago and I am usually not someone who badmouths other people. I try to be open minded and accepting / reflective. When my values and feelings are disregarded and I am faced with plain ignorance and an overall arrogance I change my mind (and this is what happened to me here) I don't like being used as a stepping stone or in any other way.

I had a kind of the same attitude as you towards Jon but then I experienced certain things that made me change my mind and I doubt that this will change again.

Knockout is not bad, it's much better than things like We All Fall Down. The only thing I do not like is the voice of Jon in the first verses, but letting this, the song is ok. Although I expect better things on the album.

Knockout (Bon Jovi)this proves what terrible production has done to a potentially decent song

Damn song got stuck in my head after just 2-3 listens. Melody and riff are catchy as hell, it's a shame it's not a little bit longer. Both the song and the guitar parts.

It struck me that I don't mind the lyrics but the vocals ruin the song. On first listen I cringed a little bit (ok, a lot) but then I remembered the lyrics are not supposed to convey the "serious" message like THINFS is and I'm fine with that, it's their thing. I'd rather listen to Knockout on repeat for weeks than "Army Of One" (doesn't sound like it's a cheeky attempt at cliché lyrics) or "Amen". Ok, scratch that, I'd rather not listen to any of them, but if I had to choose I'd go with Knockout. Lyrics are bad but harmless.

Which leaves us the vocals... What the hell are they thinking? This album was supposedly recordered at the same time or immediately after BB and even if some of the songs where recorded at any point between Oct-Nov'15 (when Jon said the album was done and he was sitting on it) and May'16 Jon's voice hasn't deteriorated that much and he sounded much much better in BB with FAR LESS EFFECTS. I know he has almost no power left (which worries me a million times more than not hitting the notes) and THINFS themes need some aggression on the delivery, but sadly Jon would not be able to pull it off live and he doesn't sound like himself on the album. My husband actually looked at me with a puzzled expression before he knew it was their new single because he couldn't recognize who was singing and it's not the type of music I listen to.

Is it worth it? This is the kind of album I want, or at least the best case scenario considering BB is too risky for a real album. The aggression/passion in the vocals is what drew me to them in the 90s, it's what I miss most. But not at any costs. Teardrop has such anguished vocals, there's no need to add any other fake feeling. Same with Who Would You Die For, which I'm still convinced is from the same era and has the best vocals in many many years. Jon sells them PERFECTLY and you can still hear it's him. I know they are not raw demos and have some work on them, but whatever they did is subtle and works to add the passion the songs need, so why did they have to crank it up to eleven for the new album when it detracts from the song so much? I know, it's the singles, they have to be radio-friendly and all that crap, but WDR sounded a tad more natural and it was also autotuned to hell and back.

I think it's a missed opportunity to make the transition to Jon's new voice easier for both the die hards who are aware of its deterioration and the blissfully ignorant fans. He wants to sound like he did in HAND and that's simply not possible. And he shouldn't, damn it, he still has a good voice but if he keeps hiding behind this robotic impersonator, I'm afraid when it's gone for good we won't have the albums to remember.

Edit: Who wrote the song with Jon, Shanks? I'm trying to avoid any info on the new album so I don't know if writing credits are already out there

Where is the album discussion? Can someone post a link? JBJ said on that facebook chat thing that "if you like have a nice day and these days, i think you'll like THINFS"

Knockout (Bon Jovi) - YouTube
Was just about to post this. I like it a 10000 times better than the BJ version. I've also heard an acoustic cover of THINFS which was a lot better than the studio version.

Wikipedia and ASCAP (BMI?) has them, although with Wiki, you never know.

And yeah, JBJ/Shanks.

And that acoustic cover made me realize that the chorus' melody is quite similar to that of Brokenpromiseland.

I hope you're just kidding around about this whole "can't handle anything heavier than Taylor Swift" business - like it's some kind of competition and you can't enjoy certain songs based on how heavy you can go. I listen to heaps of thrash, groove, folk, death, black, prog, heavy metal, and yet I love THINFS and think KO is pretty good - and don't mind some Taylor Swift.

I wasn't going to review this song. I tried to abstain from everything from this band until the full album was released, curiosity had me and here I am.

This House Is Not For Sale was a decent song that, though I didn't loved, had some energy and really dig for a few days until it wore off. Now I have listened over 20 times this one and I think I finally figured out how I feel about this song:

meh.

I don't hate it, I can't say "this song is crap", "this song is boring", whatever, because I don't and it isn't. It's a catchy one, the kind of song you can play again and again and again and, if you didn't hate it from the first moment, you won't get bored easily. The thing about it is that it doesn't make me feel anything.

Burning Bridges was a really emotional album, most songs had "soul" in a way to say it. This House Is Not For Sale, who knows why, it gave me energy. This song haven't got me in any possible way. Sounds generic, and the production ruins it.

I said before how much I liked the overall production in Burning Bridges. In this song, it really ruins it. I know that it ain't no It's My Life but the result could be way better with a better mixing. Everything sound so plain that added to the song itself, it's just too generic to either love it or hate it.

I really hope the album is better overall.
