Had a long drive yesterday, so popped Sparkle in the CD player for a listen, and I was quite impressed I have to say. I did enjoy it more than I was expecting too, as I only like a few Def Leppard hits and havent really properly got through an album of theirs other than the GH. I can definitely see the resemblance between Gotta Let It Go and HAND! Thought the intro to C'mon was a bit weak, and the Tim Mcgraw opening verse to Nine Lives a bit pointless (assuming thats what it was) but liked those 2 songs. Popped the new Whitesnake album on afterwards, cant say the same for that however...

I'm a die hard Def Leppard fan and I love all their songs and albums. Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is no different. My favorite song on the album is Only The Good Die Young. My best friend died when he was only 16, so it has a special meaning for me.

Just relased the Go (at least the opening riff) is a complete rip-off of Lostprophets song Kobrakai, from Thefakesoundofprogress album.

Just today at work I thought the same thing, it does remind of Queen.
My favourites are Go, C'mon C'mon, Bad Actress and Nine Lives but would have to listen to it a few more times to be certain

It's sold 86,000 copies in 3 weeks? That's pretty lousy.

I still like Def Leppard, but it doesn't surprise me.

I have just listened to this again. Holy COW what a piece of shit. I had listened to it two or three times when I downloaded it the first time around, but never realized what crap it was until now. it's total JUNK, worse than anything Bon Jovi have EVER released. Ever. End of story.

Love alone is the most embarrassing "power-ballad" ever. And the chorus to "Gotta let it go" is a total Have a Nice Day rip-off. It's just junk. Never been a big Leppard fan but this is atrocious. I need to apologize to my ears for putting them through this...

Edit: There's boy-band records that are better. This is definitely an insult to rock music.

Sparkle Lounge is quite far from the worst thing they've ever released. I rank it much higher than say Adrenalize or X. And it's also a bit unfair to compare one 38 minute album to the last four Bon Jovi albums. Atrotious is a little strong a word, but hey-ho, your opinion. And whilst it's far from their best, itt certainly rocks a hell of a lot more than Crush/Bounce/Have A Nice Day/Lost Highway put together. (Note to Jon: this is what a riff rock record is )

Played it recently myself and my opinion hasn't changed since last year. A couple of good/great songs. Go is an absolute beast of a song and one hell of an album opener. It only wish the rest of the album followed suit to this kind of song. This song is exactly how Def Leppard should have sound in 2008. Nine Lives is ok, didn't blow me away first off, but grows on you and becomes just as infectious as any classic Leppard song. Tomorrow is another favourite of mine, great souring melody.

I totally agree with Gotta Let It Go ripping off Have A Nice Day, but who cares.

The downside to this album is, first of all, it's mostly stuff we've heard many a time before, the songs are very disjointed and causes the album to be uneven and unsure of itself. It's like the songs were just thrown together. Personally, I was just hoping for a whole lot more. I was thinking nows the chance for the bad to really modernise themselves with a loud, heavy ballsy hard rock album thats still very Def Leppard. Instead we got another Hysteria-ish throwback. Not that that's a bad thing as far as the album is concerned, but it just shows they've not really got any inspiration anymore. Then again, I suppose after a 6 year gap since the last album and another greatest hits album, they couldn't release anything "risky" so to speak.
