The official Pearl Jam topic

Ran a search and saw a few odd topics, but really I think they deserve a fully dedicated thread?

Anyway, one of my favourite bands at the moment. Got 'Backspacer'(really enjoy this one) for Christmas and recently received 'Vs.'. I already had 'Ten' which is one of the most brilliant albums ever.

I know there are a few fans here, not sure how many though.

I've got the three albums you mentioned and i really like them :)
Quality band, with a great sound.

Agreed. It's strange as I'm not really a fan of the music that came out around this time or the bands who are supposed to be similar, but their sound and style is what hooked me. :)

Ten is my favourite album ever ... so much so that I got the £100 boxset of it released last year :D

Vs. is a close second in their albums for me. Check out the self titled from 2006 next, its better than Backspacer IMO.

Pearl Jam are my joint favourite band along with BJ. Seen them 3 times live, always an amazing gig, and I'm looking foward to seeing them again at Hyde Park this year, as long as I get a ticket!

Captain Walrus 01-15-2010 12:32 AM

Pearl Jam albums in order of greatness:

Ten
Vs.
Pearl Jam
Vitalogy
No Code
Yield
Backspacer and Binaural at about the same level
Riot Act (despite having some great songs like I Am Mine and Save You, it also has a lot of filler)

asok80 01-15-2010 02:12 PM

Eddie Vedder did a stunning performance of Bruce's My City in Ruins at the Kennedy Center Honors recently.

Love his voice.

I'll be there too most probably. So make sure you don't end up in Brighton again!!!

:p I was thinking about that the other day, and I came to the conclusion it was your fault, you were a bad influence on me I think. I forget, who's idea was the shot of gin in a pint of cider?

KeepTheFaith2211 01-15-2010 10:12 PM

I desperately want to go to Hyde Park to see the band but it's pretty much certain it won't happen, due to money and the date etc.

Oh well. :)

I keep on being told I am a bad influence. Usually it's girlfriends of buddies. Your the first straight male to say that to me. RETHINK!!!

And it wasn't my fault! As far as I remember, it was a German pub waitress who suggested that to me at some point a few years ago. Never tried it ever since that night.

Can you believe it will be 3 years. ****in' hell...

steel_horse75 01-20-2010 03:07 PM

Pearl Jam (for me) lost it after Vitolagy.

Ten, Vs & Vitolagy were excellent.
No Code was alright and from then on in its been dirge.
A few good songs littered over the next 4 or 5 albums.

Had their day.

spunkywho 02-09-2010 09:05 PM

Hail to the Ed!

:D

Lady_Luck 02-13-2010 03:22 PM

Finally I'll see them in July for their only performance in France, at the Main Square Festival in Arras (in the North, close to the Belgium border)

I like Backspacer very much and I can't wait to see them live. It should be a great rock'n'roll experience :D

KeepTheFaith2211 03-15-2010 11:22 PM

I'm in love with 'Amongst The Waves'. :|

What album do I need now?

I have 'Ten', 'Vs.' and 'Backspacer'. I am in love with this band and each album I have, I love. Just absolutely brilliant stuff. :D

I'd say Vitalogy. But honestly, I'm not super-big fan.

KeepTheFaith2211 05-13-2010 10:17 PM

Thanks for the help. :)

In the meantime, any live shows I can get or anything like that?

Self titled, then Vitalogy.

Ferret 05-15-2010 07:15 PM

I have yet to get into Pearl Jam. I've listened to Vs twice and it's a great album but one day I'll have to put some time aside to spin some more of their stuff. Heard Eddie Vedder singing some Dylan covers though, very cool.

Indeed. I'm still very much in love with the self titled one.

If you've never heard Ten then you're missing out on real life ;)

Lady_Luck 05-16-2010 10:46 AM

"Ten" is a brilliant album! I have my rock pass for the Main Square Festival in Arras. Pearl Jam will play on July 3, the only date in France! I feel lucky and I'm really excited because I'll see the band live for the first time :)

Sounds interesting. Want to listen to it now.

Anyone heard about the rumours of a Pearl Jam RockBand game being announced next week?

UKjovi 06-13-2010 10:47 AM

No not heard that one

KeepTheFaith2211 06-29-2010 01:59 AM

Anyone else hear a slight similarity between 'Unthought Known' and 'Brokenpromiseland'?

Both songs which I personally love and think are absilutely brilliant, but I hear some resemblance between the two.

UKjovi 06-29-2010 08:26 AM

Did anyone go to the gig at Hyde park this last weekend? I heard they were there.
