What? They give money to a zillionaire for his cultural and social efforts? This country is losing its mind.
Even if he'd give it to the Soul Foundation - this is ridiculous! So many more people in need, emerging artists for example...
Looks like the Banks CEO's wife is looking for some thrill on a fun night out.
Sponsoring a millionaire in "doing good" is absolutely problematic to me. Oh how I'd wish he'd refused to accept this. This puts him in a very bad light.

That's the headline I'm waiting for to read about him.

Would you donate ALL YOUR earnings? That's asking too much of anyone, no matter how much they've made in their life. He's worked for his financial security and he deserves to enjoy it and to be able to rest easy in knowing that his family is provided for after he's gone.

The IRS will get half that check and I'm sure he'll donate the rest of it to a charity. That's the obvious thing to do.

Becky, please don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about anything to maintain his and his family's lifestyle (homes, cars, staff, education, vacation..) - which doesn't seem so exagerated by the way.

I'm talking about the 300-350 million dollars lying on some bank account waiting for being invested in something (stupid) that doesn't make the world a better place.

How far has a country become that its wellfare depends on some zillionaire's efforts (who is doing his best to do good)? That is SO poor.

The bank enjoys publicity now for giving a ridiculous amount of money to a world megastar. 75.000 dollars for someone who takes 1 million for a gig?

I'm with you, I find it utterly ridiculous. Whoever runs this award thingy has lost their minds! Giving money to millionaires for their charity/social work is beyond absurd! If they have too much money on their bank account, why don't they give it to charity organizations which need it instead of multimillionaires to whom $75,000 is peanuts anyway?!
It's not about what Jon and the other award receivers will do with the money (I dare hope they will give it away), it's about the principle of that award, it's so wrong...

I know nothing about this organization or this award, but the logical assumption is that they give money to those people, so they would donate it to another charity. I mean if you run philanthropic things, that's what you want - recognition + extra 75k to your charity is not a bad thing at all. I think people are overreacting, but what else is new...

So it is up to a singer and an actor to evaluate who is in need and who is not? Is the constant applause (the "lifetime achievement award") legitime for someone (doing good) whose job is naturally accompanied by fame? Shouldn't rather the sister Mary Scullions or smaller unknown local initiatives for once stand there and get their share of the spotlight?
