It's about profitability, not timing: HBO noticed that Leary's show is doing well (not to mention the hiphop primetime soap opera Empire), so they want a copy -- and having a "real" rock star attached to it can't possibly hurt publicity-wise. In the entertainment business, the golden rule is, "Do unto others as others have done unto others."

Exactly! If Dennis Leary's series and, most of all, if Scorsese/Jagger's "Vinyl" new HBO series do very well, no doubt that HBO will look for another series based on a similar theme.

Is this the show RS is Producing? The lead characters name is Richie but read a few articles and they nor the hbo web site mention him?

Edit: OK, I found my answer - this is a different show. So there is another one?
No word on when we might see the series that Richie says he's executive producing. As previously reported, the HBO show Jagger is co-producing, titled Vinyl, is a drama that centers on the music biz in New York City during the mid-1970s and is scheduled to premiere in 2016.

From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, this new drama series is set in 1970s New York. A ride through the sex- and drug-addled music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop, the show is seen through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path. Additional series regulars include Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger and Paul Ben-Victor. Executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, Terence Winter, Rick Yorn, Victoria Pearman, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, John Melfi and Allen Coulter. Winter serves as showrunner.

Yet another TV series focusing on the music industry, more precisely on roadies:

Strange line from the article:
"Oddly enough, according to ABC Radio, HBO was questioned about further information regarding the series, but couldn't find anyone at the network who is aware of its existence."
