POLL: Best Bon Jovi concert opener
With all the current never ending discussions about Jons voice and Richies absence blah blah I though it could be nice to do something more relaxed and hopefully get some nice talk about the music for once.
Let us vote for the best concert opener used by Jovi throughout the years. I'm sure it has been done before but opinions are constantly changing so let's give it a try. There has been a lot of different songs used in the opening slot, a total of 21 original songs - provided that I haven't forgotten any ;) I will go for two criterias
So the contenders listed in the poll are the openers that have been used the most over the years (should be mentioned that Breakout, Tokyo Road and Blood on Blood also were regular openers). Songs listen under others are Breakout / Tokyo Road / You Give Love a Bad Name / Wild in the Streets / Blood on Blood / Just Older / Captain Crash / The Radio Saved My Life Tonight / Who Says You Can't Go Home / We Got It Goin' On / When We Were Beautiful / Happy Now Looking forward of hearing your opinions. I've always been weak for polls so let's hope a lot of you will join in :) |
Seems logic that I go first :) My number one Jovi opener will have to be Raise Your Hands. Not because I think it's the best song of the bunch, far from, but with an energetic Jon in good shape it's just the ultimate opener. It gets the crowd going with the hands-in-the-air ritual as well as the lyrics making sense. With Jon being able to slip in the name of the city during the last chorus is pretty awesome.
Notable mentions goes to I Believe and One Wild Night. I Believe is in some sense my favorte, but it's not as easy accessible like Raise Your Hands. One Wild Night is pretty much like Raise Your Hands with the lyrical theme fitting the opening slot and a chorus that were written for a live show. Loved the band coming out of the empire state building kicking of with OWN in 2001. |
I've gone for LYHOM as I love the build up to the first line of the song. But it could just as easily have been OWN, LOAP or I Believe as they all work just as well IMO.

Out of all songs I've seen in the opening spot Raise Your Hands was the best. Especially on the HAND tour when no one expected it in that spot and it had the crowd going mad with Jon appearing on the catwalk.
Bounce and Lost Highway were decent openers as well. From the ones I haven't seen in person One Wild Night and Lay Your Hands On Me probably were probably great, especially when the latter was still accompanied by pyro. |
Living with The Ghost jk
Bounce...But loved the OWN Elevator intro Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk |
For me Blood On Blood was a great opener for The Circle Tour. Good energy, great vibe and it worked well with Richie there - so I'm not sure how it would go down for the THINFS tour. I think NYD or the title track could work well.

I choose Raise your hands , but only with Daves Pink flamingos intro . Otherwise Lay your hands on me ;)

What is not clear in your question is whether it is about the following tour, or generally about the past. I answered nevertheless having the second case mostly in mind.

For me, it's Raise Your Hands as an up beat call to action to gets the audience pumped from the get go.
However, I am a stickler for having a new album song as an opener for the tour that it represents, like Last Man Standing was for HAND and Happy Now was for some (but not enough of imo) of The Circle shows, so something off THINFS should definitely be the opener for this tour, be it the title track or New Years Day. |
