NJ Preproduction Demos
Anyone know why the vocals are so low? Some songs even sound instrumental but every so often you hear a faint Jon in the background...

I always wondered the same thing. I think Jon was singing to far from the microphone or something because on some songs like the preproduction of Judgement Day you can hear Jon through the whole song and on In America you can barely hear him.

Best guess is that they didn't have proper lyrics at the time. Jon probably took the tapes and sings lyrics over them to create the songs.

I always assumed that his vocals were still pretty much shot from the SWW tour at that point and that he just gave some sort of "guide vocals" to the songs. They didn't mix anything properly on these preproduction demos, so my bet is that the other instruments were just naturally overpowering him (since he never used to have the loudest voice to start with either).

The Slippery preproduction demos are similar with the faint vocals...

I've always enjoyed the alternate lyrics of Social Disease. |

The one released has Jon avoiding notes left and right. The preproduction demo has him hitting said notes. Nearly every single one of them. |

There is the demo version and the one on the Deluxe release which might be the preproduction version. |
