Alec john such - what happened?

Just out of interest, I heard he had a motorcycle shop in nyc and rang a radio station to complain about jon being a democrat. Can anyone shed any light on what he's up to nowadays, or even better, do they know what his bike shops called?

MellyMel 11-23-2014 12:55 AM

I want to know the answer to this too. I remember on behind the music they said Alec was let go because he made so many mistakes live. But it seems like others think differently.

The dude just fell off the face of the earth. I would love for him to do a tell all autobiography or something.

bonjovi90 11-23-2014 11:48 AM

The only thing I remember is that I had contact with a Swiss fangirl via MSN Messenger around 2008 or so who was a total Alec-addict.
She actually somehow had tracked down his e-mail address and written him some sort of poem or so. He answered, thanking her for that and telling her she had a gift for writing. Lost contact as time went on, and honestly don't remember much more (if there was).

With Richie officially gone for good, it's only a matter of time before Jon Bon, after years of ignoring Alec, will throw a shitload of money at him for him to return, so Jon wouldn't look as ridiculous still calling it 'Bon Jovi'.

No way, no way at all!

Alex would have to learn and perfect all the songs since he left.

TheOriginalJez 11-24-2014 05:27 AM

hugh's been with the band far longer than alec was...

Old Joysey 11-24-2014 03:05 PM

Hugh has been playing on ALL the studio records, including the first single "Runaway" when Jon no longer had a band + on some live albums + he's been one of Obie's close friends long before the 2 ever met Jon so, unless Hugh decides to quit his job (which is very unlikely), there'll be no other bassist, and surely not Alec. Jon holds a big grudge against him and he doesn't seem to be someone to forgive people's mistakes/bad decisions...

There's an old YT interview in which Alec called a radio station to support a politician and he's very harsh towards Jon.
Apart from that, yes, "the dude just fell off the face of the earth"...

If anything, Jon would rather pay him NOT to write an autobiography with lots of "behind the scenes" BJ stories. I suppose he signed a contract obliging him to keep his mouth shut or else I guess such a book would have been published a long time ago, when BJ was at the top of their popularity. Nowadays it wouldn't sell, nobody cares anymore.

Hugh only played on Runaway on the first album and he didn't play on 7800 at all. He's said so himself.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the "possibility" of Alec and Richie getting back together...

I remember reading somewhere that Alec sold all of his BJ stuff.

Not sure he's running the bike shop anymore either.

He did play with BJ at Giant Stadium back in 2001

That's it! A rock & roll duo and they call themselves "Jack & Daniels":D

Besides...I'm a Richie fan

Bill23 11-24-2014 06:04 PM

No offense to Alec (or any bassist) but the world isn't exactly clamoring for a Bon Jovi reunion with his old bassist from 22_+years ago.

Oh no, not this! :P

Nevermind, Alec isn't playing bass anymore (for a band or whatever). He seems to have quit for good his music career.

True.
But it's not like the post TD songs have difficult basslines anyway.

Or Jack D & Jim B. Btw, if Alec would have sucked all the way from 1983, Tico and Richie would have known, having played in same bands with him.

Alec was always my favourite member of the band, still is oddly. That would be one hell of a read if he was ever to do a book. Didn't Jon give him a payoff of around $20m when he got fired, I swear I read that somewhere ?

Saw him a dozen times or so in the 80s, phenomenal bass player, great voice and one hell of a stage presence ....Mr Rock n Roll of the band .

Bring him back, with Richie for one last final world tour..... would be huge !

bobby_from_finland 09-07-2020 04:29 PM

Prior to RRHOF Richie said he had missed Alec. And at the show, both Richie and Jon gave him a hug. Not so much hate there.

bonjovi90 09-07-2020 07:07 PM

I don't think there's much hate between them. They may have had different musical ideas in the mid-90's, but that doesn't mean they hate each other as people.

As for Alec, I think even if everyone wanted it, his health would forbid him to do so. I remember hearing he had another motorcycle accident after his time in Bon Jovi where he very much injured his hip and he was walking with a cane at the HoF introduction. I think it was even mentioned in one of the pre-talks that it was hard for him to just stand for a longer time.

TheseDaysEra 09-20-2020 02:17 AM

I was wondering yesterday... is there any footage of Alec making constant mistakes that ultimately led to his dismissal?

Hiya! He was drunk on stage many times, on almost all instances it just added to his charisma (ex.: Syndey '87) however when he was really really drunk he started being sloppy. Check out Rio 1990 live where he fell on stage 7-8 times (only one was caught on camera), he made several mistakes too. I also remember hearing him make mistakes on KTF rehearsals. For some reason Jon also just didn't like him :(
