Richie Sambora to debut new song at Toms River drug forum 5/27

Richie Sambora to debut new song at Toms River drug forum
NJ.com: Richie Sambora, who has struggled with drug abuse in the past, will perform at a Toms River drug forum later this month designed to combat overdoses from heroin and prescription painkillers.

A spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says Sambora, who grew up in Woodbridge and appears to be on leave from Bon Jovi since dropping out of the band's last tour, was inspired to write a new song for the May 27 event after attending a previous drug forum in Ocean County.

"He felt the first thing he needed to do was make people aware of the people that were dying," says spokesman Al Della Fave.

Thanks to Sambora's participation, organizers are expecting as many as 5,000 people to attend the forum at Pine Belt Arena, which also includes presentations by Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, Douglas S. Collier, the drug initiative coordinator for the state Attorney General's Office, Nancy Joyce of CanUHearMe.org, whose daughter died from a drug overdose, and the Morella family of West Milford, whose son, Jesse, suffered severe brain damage after snorting heroin when he was 15. It was his first time using the drug.

"Richie Sambora's participation will help us reach a far greater audience with a true and lasting message regarding the tragic consequences of drug addition," Coronato says.

The drug epidemic may be turning the corner at the Jersey Shore; there were 47 drug overdoses in the first five months of the year in 2013, and this year, the number is down to 26, though Della Fave says, "We're not pounding our chest yet."

The forum, titled "Can We Talk ... Are you Listening?" is for parents, guardians and students, although anyone can attend. Those interested should register here . It's free but tickets are limited.

The event is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be food vendors and food trucks outside the arena, and an anti-drug presentation by bicycle stunt rider Chris Clark.

There are a couple of videos on his Facebook page. As soon as an RSS feed of a review is posted, I'll add it to YourHHRSnews.com.

Mission accomplished, LOL -- and if you're geo-blocked from the video, let me know and I'll try putting it in my own Web space.

Bon Jovi guitarist heads Toms River forum on drug abuse

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora…a New Jersey native…drew on his own past in debuting a song at a Toms River New Jersey forum on drug abuse...

Sambora unveiled a song he wrote called Lighthouse, about providing hope to people mired in addiction...Lighthouse will be sold on iTunes, with proceeds going toward a drug treatment facility...

Sambora said drugs had nothing to do with his departure from Bon Jovi last year. He said the band tried to do too much too soon and he needed a break from the pace...

All proceeds from the new song will go to help people with drug issues. The article goes on to talk about the dangers of heroin.

Richie REALLY likes lights in his lyrics.
Cool song, through.

IML88 05-28-2014 04:38 PM

"Yeah...we're a lighthouse baby..." what does that even mean Richie!

He's in good voice by the sounds of it, and glad to see Seven Years Gone in the set list, I was gutted he didn't play that in London. Hope to see it next month.

Santa Fe 05-28-2014 06:52 PM

Have you got the lyrics for Lighthouse?
I only know some few words

nikos greece 05-28-2014 06:57 PM

richie clearly said he thought wan wasnt ready...and obviously wasnt happy with the result

Santa Fe 05-28-2014 07:30 PM

Do you know if Lighthouse wil be included in his next studio album?

rolo_tomachi 05-28-2014 07:38 PM

Lighthouse is composed especially for this event and will be sold through iTunes to raise money for this organization.

Yes please thanks! I'm terribly tired too.

midnite ridah 05-29-2014 08:40 AM

Thanks for the links guys. Maybe the second version of Lighthouse sounded better with more of the band playing.

Dave88 05-29-2014 08:53 AM

From Richie's official Facebook page:

“LIGHTHOUSE” is a brand new song written by RICHIE SAMBORA specifically to be performed at the MAY 27, 2014 “Can We Talk… Are You Listening” Drug Awareness Forum at the Pine Belt Arena in Tom’s River, New Jersey.

RICHIE began conceptualizing the song a while back but even up until the last moments (during soundcheck) he was still changing lyrics… this is a newborn song. RICHIE performed it last night live for the audience for the very first time and was backed by the Manchester High School Chorus.

RICHIE plans to record the song in a proper studio setting ASAP and get up in iTunes.

Once there’s more information and details, we’ll share it with you here.

In the meantime, following are the LYRICS to LIGHTHOUSE

WHEN YOU’RE BLINDED, CONFUSED

BLUE SKIES SEEM PAINTED GREY

YOU CAN’T HEAR THE WHISPER

WHEN AN ANGEL CALLS YOUR NAME

YOU’RE STRUNG OUT COLD

WHILE YOU FIGHT YOUR PERSONAL WAR

ONCE UPON A TIME PEER PRESSURE CROSSED A LINE

OUR KIDS AIN’T NEEDING NEEDLES ANYMORE

CHORUS:

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

THROUGH THE FOG AND THE DARK

WE CAN BRAVE OUR HEAVY LOAD

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

FIND A BEACON OF HOPE

‘TIL WE WALK DOWN FREEDOM’S ROAD

I KNOW IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE

THAT TOMORROW TURNS BRIGHT

BUT YOU’RE HEADING FOR SAFE HARBOUR

AND SERENITY’S IN SIGHT

WHO JUDGE DON’T MATTER

THOSE WHO MATTER DON’T JUDGE

YOU’RE SWIMMING WITH THE TIDE

IN THE WAKE OF THE FLOOD

CHORUS:

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

THROUGH THE FOG AND THE DARK

WE CAN BRAVE OUR HEAVY LOAD

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

FIND A BEACON OF HOPE

‘TIL WE WALK DOWN FREEDOM’S ROAD

- SOLO-

WE ALL HAVE BROKEN PIECES

BLEEDING INSIDE

THEY OBLITERATE OUR CONFIDENCE

AND POISON OUR PRIDE

YOU DRIFTED FAR FROM THE SHORE

LIVIN’ DARK DAYS ALONE

THERE’S A BEACON OF HOPE

THAT WILL LEAD YOU HOME

THERE’S A BEACON OF LOVE

THAT WILL GUIDE YOU HOME

CHORUS:

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

THROUGH THE FOG AND THE DARK

WE CAN BRAVE OUR HEAVY LOAD

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

FIND A BEACON OF HOPE

‘TIL WE WALK DOWN FREEDOM’S ROAD

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

IF YOU JUST TAKE MY HAND I WILL STAND WITH YOU

THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE, THERE’S A LIGHTHOUSE

THERE’S NO TELLING WHAT TRUE LOVE CAN DO

"Quite frankly, I didn't think the record was ready."

then he is a liar, because during past interviews he told the opposite

Fredrik 06-04-2014 09:15 PM

It might be a slow song and slightly just above average at best, but still in comparison much better than anything off WAN.

Hint: when you've just released an album and do shows and interviews to promote it you can't say it sucks even though you think it does or else nobody will buy it!

i prefer a bad sambora from someone hired like phill, even if the guy looks ok, and dont tell me richie tico and david are also hired because its not the same...
ps.i was thinking the other day...its obvious that richie doesnt really practise anymore, thats why he is sloppy and his playing has deteriorate seriously...i noticed though that both richies and jons love for music and especially songwriting is there...which is remarkable after 30 years of album after album, tour after tour, and so many promotion cycles...
