Bon Jovi at Live in MetLife Stadium back in '13 is actually quite good !
So I took the time to watch a few songs of BJ's last tour with Phil X, for the first time ever. Turns out THIS ONE is actually quite good, to my surprise. His voice was top notch that night.

I agree, it was a great show! But a few people have pointed out the difference in a few of the songs from the broadcast to the actual live show and it seems it was tampered with a bit to fix some of the botched notes. Still, great show and it is a common practice, I don't believe it was much, it is however very noticeable on These Days if you compare it to any audience recording from that night....

The show was awesome - the first night. I think what soured some of us long time fans was the setlist on night 2 being identical except for 1 song (substituting Dry County for These Days). That really put me off for sure. And ending night 2 with I Love This Town - UGH.

I am no vocal expert but I just don't like the way he sounded after Richie left...his voice thinned out alot and sounded very strange untill the end of the tour.

Those two shows in 2013 are, apart from night 4 in 2010, not a patch on what was played in 2010 there. If I'd have gone to these shows chances are I'd have walked out halfway through as opposed to walking out during the encore. Really the entire thing was on autopilot, and unlike Milan there was no encore that woke him up. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
It's like his voice was raised a semitone during the ENTIRE concert.
Always (actual) Falling flat on the "WILL LAAAVE YUUUU" and "forever and a day" parts in the actual one compared to implausibly hitting them in the live stream is egregious. 3:48-3:52 - And IIIIIIIII...WILL LAAVE YOU... (livestream) - And IIIIIIIIII...WILLAAVEYUUU... (a lot smoother) Also the stars don't shine part (4:15). The word "stars" is raised quite a bit in the actual audio but the livestream doesn't pick it up and shows it as flat (I'LL BE THERE WHINDASTARSDON'T SHAAAYYNNN!). |
I guess you're right. In fact, it's fairly easy to do it in post production. Could have been Auto-Tune, could have been Melodyne.

It wasn't too bad being there in person.
I mean if the audio was throw on a CD and sold, then it's painful but to be there live, a lot gets drowned out by distractions. Don't get me wrong, you do notice things here and there but as long as Jon could pull off something decent, I'm okay with that. If I had a choice of one, I'd rather see Jon get off auto-pilot first and actually have fun on stage. I miss those energetic type of shows that Jon used to put out. |

These Days MetLife 2013 (audience recording):
While Jon sounded decent in the recording, his voice in the live stream is too high (2008-10 level) . With that level, he should be moving around the stage instead of just standing in front of the mic stand. |
