Migraines

Does anyone have chronic migraines? If so, have you had any positive experience with nerve blocks or botox?

I had a nerve block done today so I'll see how long that lasts. I didn't get the full treatment though. I lost count of how many shots I had. The doctor started to give me shots around my eyebrows and I refused to let her. The only way anyone will ever get near my eyes with a needle is if they knock me totally out first.

I'm on Topamax as a preventative medicine and she's going to increase that dose. I'm still having at least 20 headache days a month. There are a couple of other preventative medicines but I can't take one of them because I have relatively low blood pressure and it would make my bp bottom out.

Anyway... just wondering if anyone else has this and what your experience has been and what has worked for you if anything.

Not my personal experience Becky, but an ex of my son's used to get botox treatments (if I recall in her neck) and they really helped. She went for the treatment every 3 months (I think).

I would think it would be worth checking into.

Second Kathleen on the botox - I have nerve damage in my face, chronic so I get these odd off emails and I just forwarded one to my nephew who has chronic migraines. Long article short was the actual people using botox and 7/10 were singing praises. Most said did not stop them completely but significantly reduced number and severity. Several even mentioned that it was covered by medical insurance.

Also old wives tale, when you feel the migraine coming on - put your hands in ice water, as cold as you can stand and flex hand out and to a fist alternately. Can't hurt?

I had them years ago (found my trigger and put a stop to those things) but I was lucky. Hope you find your solution, they can stop you in your tracks.

Hi Becky,

Ive had migraines for 20+ yrs... After my strokes I had a constant migraine. I had 2 gon bloks (two injections of steriod and anes in back of head. 1st one worked for a few wks then 2nd one only a few days. You can only have 2 lots in a year.

Had 2 lots of Botox (32 injections around my head/shoulders/neck each time) 1st lot only worked for 6wks , 2nd lot is still working since Feb haven't needed anymore so far and its halved my migraine attacks. Botox inc injections above my eyebrows it made my eyelids droop both times for about 6wks which is just muscles relaxing..

I've tried various pills topermax and others but like u I have low BP which caused an issue. The anti depression types just made me very depressed as I am a naturally positive person.

Hope this helps.

Dawn x

I have clusterheadache and had 3 nerve blocks, didn't help alot.

However about 4 months ago I attended a test, normally for migraines, and thar seems to help alot. Its based on American studies so ask.

It's one shot a month of CGRP which is basically a protein.

Hi, just been reading up on this. It sounds really interesting, will ask my consultant.

I'm also going to try B2 and magnesium.

Thanks. :D
