Your ONE fave live performance!

Hello,

Heres a wee challenge for those who are interested. Find what you consider to be the best live performance of one song of your choice and post it here.

It doesnt have to be the best live performance of a popular song or your favourite song. Just a performance which, on balance, you think shows excellent songwriting, singing, playing, etc. The sort of performance you would show to a non-fan to show Jovi at their best.

For example, if I could only choose one I would probably be inclined to go with hard letting you go @ o2 2010.
Even though dave and co were trying to figure out the chords, I think the atmosphere, emotion, lyrics and Jons voice create a very special performance.

Silent Night (Cincinnati 1987)

This is one of many but the one I'm feeling right now.

These Days - Helsinki 1996:

rolo_tomachi 04-15-2015 08:14 PM

Dortmund '93 and An Evening '92 are great shows, but my favorites are ...

Lie To Me - Tampa 1995
minute 5:00 until 6:50. Jon is awesome here, and I love the vocal accompaniment of Richie throughout performance too.

Dry County - Camden 1995
Best part ever! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jIVo5fubgs#t=01h09m17s

Bono and The Edge can not do that.

That is one of my absolute favorites - It's Eric Burden's It's My Life:

It's a hard world to get a break in
All the good things have been taken
But girl there are ways
To make certain things pay
Though I'm dressed in these rags
I'll wear sable some day

I also love it when he does Point Blank (Bruce's song) at that spot - it always wows me.

These Days Johannesburg 1995

But I do love the whole Tampa show from 1995. Lie To Me and This Ain't a Love Song are out of this world. The Dry County, Always and Blaze of Glory versions from Wembley 1995 are also incredible.

TwinFan 04-15-2015 10:45 PM

Keep the Faith from Giants Stadium, July 2001. The performance is perfect, this whole show is damn near perfect. Richie's guitarwork is on point, and Jon is so ****ing in to the song.

I agree. This performance along with Anaheim 2003 are truly spectacular and unsurpassed. Others performances from Keep The Faith Tour and These Days Tour were not as good as here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nzLVX68f4I#t=02m06s

Keep the Faith, Stockholm, 1993.

I WORE OUT my video tape rewinding and rewatching this performance. The screams... OMG, the screams!!!!!!!

As far as a full show, here's one that I really liked:

Montreal, 1995, 2nd night.

KSantaFe 04-16-2015 01:17 AM

At least one of my favourites:
"Livin' in Sin" live in Phoenix, Arizona USA 1989

rocknation 04-16-2015 03:59 AM

My one quintessential Bon Jovi live performance? I can't pick one -- it's a dead heat tossup between their

at the Moscow Music Peace Festival in 1989, and

at the MTV Movie Awards in 1994.

My choice would be Tokyo Road Live 1990 - https://youtu.be/n9wzeVcD3jY

I love how powerful this performance sounds. It's heavy yet melodic and fun which sums up Bon Jovi at their best. All the members are on top form too. It's edited really well also oh and there's Jon's coat....

It's a video I always go back to even when I'm on a Bon Jovi hiatus.

Rdkopper 04-17-2015 04:13 AM

I download a fan-made live CD over 10 years ago that was fan-titled "Sons Of Beaches" and it basically contained a Soundboard Live Version of each song per album.... Basically a live CD of the first 4 albums (soundboard only)... The dynamic range on this mix was so great, that I wish that it could be repeated with other albums.... With that said, every song up until 1990 is equally enjoyable. 92/93 had some great moments too but I do notice a difference when I compare them to the 80's versions.

steel_horse75 04-17-2015 02:51 PM

There is of course this gem

Excellent topic!

In previous posts you have chosen a few of my favorite performances, such as "Silent Night" from Cincinnati 1987, which was sung before JBJ destroyed his voice during the SWW tour. Absolutely epic performance, but...

In my opinion, Bon Jovi played some of the best concerts during a short tour in Japan in early January 1991. The highlight of this mini-reunion tour was the second night in Osaka. To this day, it is THE BEST JOVI SHOW EVER. Absolutely the greatest "Wanted Dead or Alive" I ever heard. The greatest "Diamond Ring" I ever heard. The greatest "It's My Life / We Gotta Get Out of This Place" I ever heard. And... that "Wild is the Wind":

"Wild is the Wind" (live at Castle Hall, Osaka on January 9th, 1991)

Full Show:
I could kill someone for the official DVD of this concert.

Wild Is The Wind was my first favourite song from Bon Jovi and will always have a very special meaning to me - and I agree, this is THE performance!!!
Jon always pulled songs off better when he abandoned his guitar.

danfan 04-17-2015 06:20 PM

Wild is the Wind Largo, MD 1989

Quality sucks, but you can tell it was an awesome performance.

For quality, Prayer from Tokyo, 1990 New Years.

I agree about that Japan run. They sounded amazing. Very tight. Oddly, that was the same time that RIP Magazine article came out about all the strife in the band,

Silent Night was my pick and I agree with you regarding the '91 shows. I always said Jons best years were during those times. Right before his voice went on Slippery is a close second and then Jersey is even a closer third. That Little Help performance from '91 is insane.

Faceman 04-17-2015 08:38 PM

There are so many awesome perfomances of the band over all the years, it's impossible to pick only one.

I always loved the performance of Bad Medicine from Giants 2001. It's just a high-energy performance. Sure there are enough more performances of that song with the same or even higher energy and some are maybe even better...but what I always loved was the part at the end when they kick back into the chorus (4:50).They don't kick in right away with the keyboards but do a rundown first. I think it's just great and pumps up the crowd even more.
And I think it's the only time they've done this. At least I never heard another version where they played it like this.

Kathleen 04-17-2015 09:13 PM

OK - I have made comments - but I guess my one pick would have to be the long version of Blood on Blood at the Moscow Peace Festival. Runner up, Livin' in Sin from Rotterdam 89. Both give me chills.

Moscow 89 Rotterdam 89

Every once in a while a thread pops up that reminds me why I've loved this band for so many years. When they were on, nobody in the world could touch them!!!

Hell Yeah!!!!

That's the difference between a passionate rock star compared to the guy we have today, just going through the motions.

Call me nostalgic or whatever you want but I do live in the past when it comes to this band. Jon's hidden vault excites me more than any new album or tour combined....

The crowd at that show were dismal and undeserving of such a performance.

Twist & Never Say Goodbye - 1987

Although Jon's voice is so raw, it's just bleeds with passion at the same time. That signature scream at 8:39 is chilling.

That's how you deliver a song with no voice.

Here is another great one!!

Not Fade Away/Never Say Goodbye (Live Castle Donnington 1987

this is a pesronal fav of mine from ireland in 2008. it was a brilliant concert that night in punchestown. there was a definately a magic to that night

Also this tv performance of its my life on letterman was great

We're all aware of how stupid you are but surely even you understand what ONE means?

TheseDays23 04-19-2015 03:56 AM

I know it's a popular pick, but I have to go with Always from the London 1995 concert. The solo, the improvised lyrics, the outro. Everything is just fantastic, it's gotta be one of the best performances they ever did.

Tokyo Road is such a monster song live. I'd go so far as to say that, performed in their prime, it is Bon Jovi's greatest live track.

I probably prefer over any others. This song should've stayed a mainstay in the setlists. One average performance in the last 25 years is a crime.

Jonny Sambora 04-19-2015 08:53 AM

Dublin 1996, especially the performance of lie to me (2:16:24). Jon messes up the lyrics at the start of the second verse and so makes up for it at the end of the song!

Great set and gig that night. During the introduction to These days Jon gave a great speech, towards the end of it the sun broke through the clouds and he said "so wherever your dreams may take you let the sun shine ok?" Great moment!

Simon 04-19-2015 12:32 PM

Probably the best performance of my favourite song.

Bed Of Roses, Milan 1993

It's called keeping the tread alive Dick Head... It's assholes like you who keep this board down. I'm posting some great performance that other fans could enjoy. Most of these picks are predictable because they are the same songs that show up in every other thread... KTF Giants 2001.... Some others have posted full concerts too but you choose to attack me. TROLL

If everyone posted once, this topic would be 2 pages so chill the **** out and stop being a bitch

Agree!!!

Speaking of the bands peak. A little off topic as far as a full performances goes but I found these on-line and they are both worth a share...

Someone analyzed Jon's vocal range, from low to high, and put some cool notes in too.

Here is one that focuses on Jon's high notes....
