Ted Nugent Paid $16,000 NOT to perform

Quote:

Huffington Post: Rocker Ted Nugent just made big bucks to not show up somewhere.

The town of Longview, Texas...had reached a verbal agreement with Nugent...(to) play inside the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center during the town's Independence Day celebration...

(I)n January 2014...Nugent, who campaigned with Texas...gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott...(called) President Barack Obama...a "subhuman mongrel"...Abbott's rival, Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D), called the Attorney General's embrace of Nugent an "insult..."

(He) apologized for those comments in February...The town paid Nugent half of his guaranteed performance fee of $32,000 from Maude Cobb's annual budget...(t)o break (the) agreement...

(I)n 2012...Nugent was removed from a concert lineup at a prominent military base...after saying he would be "dead or in jail by this time next year" if Obama was re-elected that year.
Well, what do you know -- the bands have been going about this all wrong! Why knock yourself out learning music, trying to get a record deal, making albums and touring when you can just book a gig, collect a deposit, say something politically incorrect, and threaten to show up? That's even better than what the Marx Brothers came up with!

Update

You would think that Ted would take his hard-earned money and depart graciously...well, you WOULD think that...
Quote:

...Nugent’s New York agency had agreed on the date, but the city paid a cancellation fee because “we’re a diverse community and we’re trying to find a group or act that people throughout the community feel good about"...(Longview Texas mayor Jay) Dean said..."Not a lot of people know who Ted is...Younger people here don’t know him.”

...Nugent, 65, a former Detroit rocker turned McLennan County rancher...has been recovering from double knee replacement surgery...“I hear from reliable sources that the mayor is a racist and was offended that my band performs mostly African-American-influenced music,” he wrote...“Sounds like a sad case of anti-Texas in Texas...

"Everyone knows ol’ Uncle Ted is the ultimate Independence Day rockout with the ultimate all-American, soul music, rockin’ soundtrack of defiance, liberty and freedom. We shall carry on. We are the good guys. Clueless, dishonest people like the mayor are the bad guys.”
Way to get even more gigs, Teddy! Are you sure the painkillers they gave you for your knees aren't catching up with you?

UPDATE: Nugent collects ANOTHER cancellation fee!
Quote:

...(I)f you do know about Ted Nugent, you...probably thought he'd given up his guitar in favor of shooting large animals, campaigning for losing presidential candidates, sitting on the National Rifle Association board, and getting investigated by the Secret Service for implying that he was going to harm the president. But yes, Ted Nugent does still tour as a musician...

Nugent's show slated for Aug. 4 at the Coeur d'Alene Casino (Idaho USA)...has been canceled by the venue after the Tribal Council learned of Nugent's history of ridiculous, racist and violent rhetoric.

“The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has always...worked ... to make sure that each and every person is treated equally and with respect and dignity. We know what it’s like to be the target of hateful messages and we would never want perpetuate hate in any way,” said Chief Allan, Chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe in a statement released yesterday...
Jon has said that he wished he could tour by instant travel to and from venues Star-Trek transporter style. Nugent may have come up with the next best thing -- making money touring without even leaving the house!

P.S. He's got a gig scheduled in Montclair New Jersey tonight. A protest is scheduled, too. And clouds are beginning to form over his Saturday show in Oshkosh Wisconsin.

He's getting paid for all these canceled shows? LMFAO!

The Oshkosh show is not on his Ticketmaster schedule (though there's no indication of a sellout); he's been cancelled in Ridgefield, Washington; and The House of Blues have been starting to get complaints about Ted's upcoming gigs in Orlando, Florida and Houston, Texas!

Nugent Responds: Billboard/Radio.com
Quote:

"They literally have an army assigned to destroy Ted Nugent...To call me a racist is a clear act of desperation. Because everybody knows I'm not a racist!

My [former] bass player Johnny Gunnel happens to be a black guy. My [former] bass player Marco Mendoza was born in Mexico! Are you kiddin' me? I pay tribute to Martin Luther King in my songs, I've always said my music is a direct result of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, and all the black musical heroes of my life."

"These sick, sick, stoned, hygiene-challenged Michael Moore fans, they call in and complain that I'm a racist, they claim I'm a pedophile, that I dodged the draft. They call all the promoters, they call all the venues, they call all my sponsors...Meanwhile, what am I doing? I'm going to rock my ass off ...I'm having the greatest tour of my life and I'm going to have...the greatest hunting season of my life. So I have created the abject fear in the left of how effective I am."
I guess it takes a hygiene-challenged type to know one. And knock it off with referring to yourself in the third person, Ted -- that's Alice Cooper territory!

Never knew Marco Mendoza was Ted Nugent's bass player. He's one badass, used to love just watching him with Thin Lizzy.

Anyhow - I know Nugent is a pro-gun crazy basters, but that's the first time I read about him being a racist. What did he do/say?

Right - I completely missed his 'subhuman mongrel' comment. Seems that even The New Yorker dissected it. http://www.newyorker.com/news/amy-da...in-translation

Anyhow - while he is a nutter, I doubt he actually is a racist. Sometimes people say disgusting things without implying their terrible connotations. I certainly was guilty of using homophobic language in the past and it's a self-conscious effort to completely remove it from my vocabulary. Sometimes I might still slip a 'you gay bastard' in a random conversation and then I feel terribly guilty. Never ever have I been a homophobe though.

And I find Nugent's music interesting to be fair. Wondering what he thinks about Jon Bon Bon nowadays...back in the day they were like buds, weren't they? He's probably on Richie's side :D

Tacoma (Washington) casino cancels Nugent shows over 'racist views'
Emerald Queen Casino will cancel two Ted Nugent concerts that were scheduled August 2 and 3 over allegations of racist remarks by the singer.

Puyallup Tribe officials said the decision came after learning that Nugent has said racist remarks. The tribal council said they also received threats from community members wanting the casino to cancel his shows...

The tribe says it booked Nugent without realizing he espoused "racist attitudes and views..."

I used to use homophobic language like that a lot as well, back in high school, and I'm trying correct that as well. I'm happy to say I've been pretty successful, and have even manager to correct some of my friends behavior as well, by speaking up about it. :)

Btw - the Nuge may also be a pedophile. http://www.examiner.com/article/romn...-says-so-video

Never heard that Courtney Love quote...god damn it, that sounds disgusting.
Anyhow - I won't deny that I am a fan musically speaking. Probably one of the greatest riff masters in history and sure thing a great entertainer.

And I always remember this - while sleeping in front of the Olympiastadion in Munich just to make it front row back in 2006.... Richie was rocking out with the Nuge in a club. I had no idea there was this concert, otherwise, it would have been much better use of my time. Ah well.

In 2006? That was a busy year for him, LOL!

SuperGroup was a 2006 reality show on VH1 that followed five well-known hard rock and heavy metal musicians over a 12-day period during which they lived together in a Las Vegas mansion in order to create, plan and perform a live show together. The show, which aired in seven segments, starred band members Sebastian Bach, Jason Bonham, Scott Ian, Ted Nugent and Evan Seinfeld. Doc McGhee, who had previously worked with Bach and his band Skid Row, appeared as the band's manager. Journalist Lonn Friend and photographer Ross Halfin...appeared on the show...

He is an incredibly busy musician. I think he averaged more than 300 gigs a year through the 70s and 80s. That's as close to a show a day as you get. The rest he used to record his albums. I know... He is not a likable character but if all musicians worked as hard as him, we'd get a lot more great music.

2016 Update

RawStory: Ted Nugent, who occasionally takes time away from making racist and anti-Semitic statements to play music, failed to draw much of a crowd at a...concert...in New Hampshire (USA)...driving the promoters to end “Laconiafest” a day early...

“There sure were a gaggle of beautiful, sexy, skinny gals out there tonight and as always, it is incredibly inspiring to see everybody smiling and dancing to my songs,” he told Ultimate Classic Rock. “Tonight was an out-of-the-park musical home run! Lucky, lucky me!”

...(But) the festival has been beset by abysmal ticket sales and failed to draw much of an audience Friday — even though tickets to see Nugent were slashed from $67 for general admission to $5. The band scheduled to play Saturday cancelled...
Too bad this wasn't one of the events that Tickmaster had decided were worth a pair of free tickets as part of their settlement for overcharging. You and a guest could have seen Ted for LESS than those chumps who put up five dollars, LOL!
