Do we have any idea when "Who Would You Die For" was written?
 

When it was released, I'd assumed that it was an old song due to the strength of the vocals in the chorus alone. However, seeing the actual sound of the production is rather modern and it was co-written by Billy Falcon (who didn't really enter the picture writing-wise until Crush), and personal wise, it was produced by Shanks, it's probably somewhat recent?

No idea, but this track has been the one that keeps playing in my head as we head into this new album period. It's definitely up there among the classics in my book.

It's easily the most organic thing they've done in ages, even if it sounds unfinished structure-wise (the end is super abrupt).

"The weekend song" has grown on me, but it's decidedly new-era Jovi. This one is much more "overreaching", so I'd love it to be something they're still capable of. So I'm curious as to when it was written and/or recorded.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't love SGMSM, but that gave way to an album with some worthy tracks. Definitely hoping for the same.

I stuck Burning Bridges in the car last weekend for the first time in ages. I feel that it has aged well and there are a few stellar tracks on it. But then I have to admit I liked a lot of it upon first hearing too. I'm glad they released it.

I think half of the record is very forgettable, but the inspired moments feel a lot more organic and dynamic than most of the stuff they released since Bounce.

I still stand with my opinion that everything was re-recorded, old song or not. Why? Because a) it just sounds like that to me (Jon even has that "problem" with sounding like having too much spit in his mouth or something (sorry, can't describe it better) on just about every song, which he only had since WAN) and b) at least Shanks said so, if I remember correctly.

So yeah, it should be something they are still capable of doing :-)

Blind Love just came up in full catalog shuffle and it definitely is one of those shining moments from that album. "Welcome to another hard night. You've made it through another day." It's as emotionally powerful as anything they've done. The only stumbling block in the entire song is the "gunny sack" line, for me.

Who Would You Die For ranks as the top track of the album for me. There is something so satisfying with how the timing of the chorus feels abrupt yet so smooth.

Might be a long shot, but as Jon is known for reusing words and phrases throughout a writing cycle, I think there is a possibility that Who Would You Die For is a new song. Which is because of the THINFS line "the wolf is at the door", comparable to "the big bad wolf is knocking at your door" in WWYDF imo. I would also say that the general vibe of the song doesn't really fit to other recent BJ records (but that is just a feeling of mine).
Why he would write a song with a chorus he definitely is not able to perform live? I don't know, but maybe this is one of the reasons it ultimately landed on BB.

True enough but a lot of the album cuts just don't get played now. I'm With You's chorus melody had to change because he couldn't hit that high note (I'm assuming) for the live version. Amen's long AMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN sounded auto tune to hell and he struggled pulling it off live like he did on the album.
