Exclamation Is Bon Jovi a girly band?

I am a huge Bon Jovi fan. I have been listening to them since I was 13 years old and now I am 23. Crush was the first album which I bought. But I like the older albums much more. Songs like Dry County, Only Lonely, These Days, Homebound Train are like my favorites. To get to the point, I mostly see women in the concerts maybe mid-30's, 40's. Indeed, there are people from all ages but the major portion consist of middle aged women. So, Is Bon Jovi a band for girls? Jon says in the concerts that, "you people have paid a lot of money to hear me sing and shake my ass"! I guess only gay men would want Jon to shake his ass, or does he know that his major fanbase is women.

But I don't understand how can women relate to Blaze of Glory, Something for the pain, etc which are quite manly songs

Indeed.

Whenever I go to their gigs, I have to put on high heels (a bugger to walk in), make-up and introduce myself as Olivia just so I fit in.

Did you just say that women don't feel pain?

I am appalled that people still ask this question. I am a woman and an engineer - am I "girly" for liking Bon Jovi - I'm 61 years old My husband is also a longtime fan - does that make him "girly"?

And yes of course we women like Blaze of Glory - do you think pride is only a male emotion. If so - you have a lot to learn.

Not even sure how to vote as I really don't understand what the hell the original post was supposed to mean.

There are more women in their fanbase than men.

Back in the day, (when they were at the top) any woman into Rock music was a Bon Jovi fan.

Best regards,

At the last show I went to security wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a Vagina.

It seems to me that you haven't phrased the question quite right. In the subject line, you ask if Jovi IS "girly," and my answer to that would be "hell no." But after reading your post, it sounds like you're really asking if Jovi appeals to women more than to men. Discounting your assumptions about which songs women can appreciate and which ones they can't, I'd say that here in the U.S., Bon Jovi has a much larger female fan base than most rock bands. (I get the impression that Jovi has more male fans in other parts of the world.) Most people would probably say that's because the guys are good-looking and promoted themselves for a female audience. I'm sure that's true. However, I also think it has something to do with the lyrics. Even back in the day when they wrote a lot of boy-girl songs, their lyrics were not demeaning or violent toward women.
