Default Robin Williams Dead Aged 63

Robin Williams the actor and comedian has been found dead at home from what seems to be suspected suicide.

I read that he was in rehab for depression a week or two ago. Shame!

Enjoyed one or two of his films. Wasn't a big fan but absolutely loved Mrs Doubtfire and thought he was superb in it. Was meant to be a number 2 being made as well..

R.I.P

My favorite Robin Williams movie wasn't a comedy, it was Awakenings. I started crying ten minutes into that movie and didn't stop crying for an hour after it was over. He was more than just a comic. He had great skill and range.

As someone who battles depression, it scares me to think about it getting so bad that he committed suicide.

He was one of the greats. How sad that he took his own life. Strange, how the ones who bring the most joy are so often deeply troubled inside.

RIP, oh captain, my captain.

It's especially strange when they also seem to have everything a person could possibly want.

I'd hazard a guess that to quote an old cliche - fame and money isn't all it's cracked up to be.

OK maybe if you're a money grubbing attention whore like the Kardashian's where you thrive off of your infamy it works but I'd say for most actors, actresses, musicians, sport people etc... fame and the trappings of it are probably a nasty side effect of what they do and can easily see how you could feel trapped in an inescapable bubble or crave a quieter, simpler life.

Anyway horrible news - I thought he was great in most things. I started watching Dead Poet's Society a week or so ago because I'd never seen it. Had to shoot out halfway through but will make a point of watching it this week.

I hope he's found whatever peace it is he's been looking for.

Good Comedians are smart observers and use their acting as an outlet for their suffering. It is unbelievably sad. He is the second actor after Hoffman who went away this year. People like him always seem to live forever in my book, just until you find out that they don't.

From the comic web site Cracked.com:
...I don't know what percentage of funny people suffer from depression (but) from a rough survey of the ones I know and work with, I'd say it's "approximately all of them..." (W)hen I hear some naive soul say, "Wow, how could a wacky guy like [insert famous dead comedian here] just [insert method of early self-destruction here]? He was always joking around and having a great time!"; my only response is a blank stare...

As one of the head guys at Cracked, I'm surrounded by literally hundreds of comedy writers, and I inhabit the body of one. Kristi Harrison recently wrote about the psychological dark side of being funny, and was speaking from experience. Or, here's John Cleese talking about his recent adventures on antidepressants. Here's Mark Hill on his depression. (H)ere's Dan O'Brien ... Tom Reimann ...
(and) C. Coville ... on social anxiety... Here's... Mara Wilson (on obsessive compulsive disorder)... Felix Clay on regret ... Gladstone on emotional trauma, and Adam Brown on almost dying from cough syrup addiction...

...(S)uicidal thoughts are so common among our readers and writers that our message board has a hidden section where moderators can coordinate responses to suicide threats... Now do you want me to tell you...(about) messages/comments/emails we get...from fans...telling a writer to "kill yourself" because said writer wrote a joke they didn't like?...I ban them, (and) they always act confused as to why...

Wow! What a great line!

This is a bit late - still:
Have any of you watched What Dreams May Come?It used to be one of my absolute favourite movies. He plays a doctor whose children die in a car crash. He helps his wife battle depression and avoid committing suicide just before dying in a car crash himself. Eventually, his wife commits suicide and he goes to hell to get her out of there. One of the most powerful love stories I have ever seen. Absolutely moving imagery as well. Well - for someone who acted that role to go like that, it's pretty sad. Well - generally speaking it's pretty sad.

RIP Robin Williams. Great actor who never failed to deliver!

Loved him as an actor, but it's strange that he still has money issues after such a career. He should be long set for life financially.
