Did you know that they're going to play the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show? But I'm sure the fact that the NFL wants to get American football into Great Britain has nothing to do with it -- it could just as easily be that Coldplay was willing to pay the NFL for the privilege. Don't know which is more pathetic.

To be honest, another X&Y. That was a great record, I listen to Swallowed In The Sea and then this and I just can't believe this is the same band.

The record has some average to good songs, I think I counted 3. Everglow is the one I liked the most, but the overproduction added to the "ooohs" and the silly melodies make me cringe.

Even Mylo Xyloto looks like a masterpiece compared to this.

Well I've never been a fan of Coldplay so your opening post is pretty much how I've always felt about their music. Could never understand how anyone can get through a whole song full of Chris Martin's "singing".

They seemed to have sold out quite a bit in recent years by using drum machines and collaborating with new, hip popstars/producers (from what I've heard from them lately). At least in the early 2000's they sounded like an actual band.

The best tune they've done since x & y is essential an avicii tune with Chris martiin singing on it.

I like Coldplay and think a lot of the hate they get is just group think at work but they've totally lost the plot of late.

I've only learnt in recent years that it was apparently "cool" to hate Coldplay. I don't "hate" them, hate is a path to the dark side after all. But I've never liked the music ever. Since they exploded on the scene in 2000/2001, just never cared for them, for reasons I've said previously, and I thought I was on my own in that respect. So I'm not jumping on any bandwagon.

My expectations for this were really low and it was still underwhelming.

I guess it could be a decent pop album if it was done by another band. But expectations matter. I will give it another listen some other time, but the first impression was dire.

Coldplay out-pathetic-ed themselves.

Either the NFL got more than one payday out of the halftime performers, or they decided that a band with seven #1 albums that have sold an average of 12 million copies each didn't have enough material to fill fifteen minutes. They were rendered a castrated opening act to Beyonce -- a real rock band would have raised hell and walked.
