I have a couple of times questioned moments of his live singing. I recall watching a livestream a couple of tours ago where Jon had turned upstage. His back was to the audience but the camera was on him. The mike in was holding was no where near his mouth but he was singing. In another YouTube instance (a concert in Spain?), Jon IS singing but at one point you hear him clearly utter, "kill me," and then he continues singing. I always thought that the words were meant to be a private instruction for his audio team to substitute his voice for either the rest of the song or for a portion of it. I am sure there is a way that Jon can issue private instructions to his crew but in this case it was inadvertently broadcast. Note: I do think that 99% of the time he is singing live. Britney Spears on the other hand....

All this that you wrote means very little with no YouTube link to a performance that you are talking about. I'm sure we would all love to see and hear what you are talking about.

Without seeing any footage, I really doubt it. If there was any truth to it, he would've definitely used it more during the later part of the 2013 tour. But he continued sounding worse and worse, so it had to be 100% live. Off course, I'm not talking about Metlife stream, which was obviously altered afterwards.

Agreed, you can't sound that strained and bad live and be doing taped vocals. For better or worse that's him live.

That one was amusing Looked very sheepish realising the vocals on the edit came in earlier

There obviously Top Of The Pops were they didn't try to hide the miming:

Pretty much most mimed TOTP performances to be honest!

I think the same.
In this version of "Army of One" Bobby's guitar must be adjusted louder than Jon's one...

Another option is the post-recording sound mix by Obie - a standard process of improving any deficiencies prior to publication (here it would be incorrect because of the lack of synchronization with the image, but it has already happened in the past)...

Yeah, the most obvious which springs to mind was the absolute mess they made for the Crush Tour VHS post-production. The 'Livin' On A Prayer' outro is laughable as well as the ridiculously edited talkbox sound.

Is this the same as the DVD as well or does the VHS have different edits?

The VHS has different edits. I once watched the VHS out of boredom and was surprised how shockingly bad the outro is edited. It sounds the same like a CD skipping a few seconds. I don't think Obie's responsible for this particular edit, but it's appaling how it made it through the final check before so many copies were made.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

The vocals don't match the picture at all as they used the shortened OWN Live CD audio with the wrong section of video footage.

Thanks for the clarification; that is hysterically bad. Might grab the VHS if I ever find it in a thrift store just to see for myself.
