but I think that the ABC reporter got it wrong when (s)he wrote [at age 28,]: Richie was most likely referring to his pre-BJ years or else he wouldn't have added, "and then I had another label." because he had no other after NJUMC. He probably meant first his own record company then "another label": NJUMC.

NB: Richie talked about the different bands he played with before joining BJ at 23 in the 2012 Howard Stern show (YT). He didn't say he was the lead singer in all of them BTW.
