(editd by Sambo-Chris), N.J. - He's never lived in his newly built 20,000 square-foot mansion on the (edited by Sambo-Chris). Now former New York Mets and Boston Red Sox infielder John Valentin is selling it.

The house, in the same tony neighborhood where rock star Jon Bon Jovi lives, is being put up for auction in February.

The house is on reserved sale, meaning there is no published minimum bid set, and Valentin would have the option of retaining title if he feels the bids are too low, said Carl D. Carter, a spokesman for J.P. King Auction Company, Gadsden, Ala., which is auctioning the property.

Prospective buyers need to have $100,000 cashier's check in order to register a bid for the auction, set for Feb. 26 at the house.

Valentin, a Jersey City native and Seton Hall graduate, bought the 3-acre property in 1998 for $950,000. The property and the house are now assessed at $1.836 million. He pays $58,843 in annual property taxes.

Valentin, 36, who is playing winter baseball in Puerto Rico, said that while the house was being built he and his wife decided they "wanted something smaller - preferably in a warmer climate."

"Now that it's likely I'll be playing baseball in another part of country, it makes sense to wait and establish my main household once my plans for next summer come into better focus," Valentin said.

The house has a two-lane bowling alley, an indoor racquetball court and an activity room large enough to use for a batting cage.

Rumor has it in the real estate world that Jon is thinking about selling. Who knows? But I wouldn't mind a house on that block myself.

I read that new people moved in next door, but were told not to bother Richie and Heather. Turns out R and H couldn't understand why the neighbors never introduced themselves, so they went to the neighbors house with a gift to meet them. I wouldn't mind having Richie and Heather knock on my door.
