Aloha !
This one will without a doubt get a bunch of yay's simply because it's a song for These Days and therefore it must receive a yay, but for the ones that actually read a topic, here's my personal opinion on the song.
It works on the album, but doesn't work in a live setting. It's boring and too slow, and there's a reason why Bon Jovi didn't play it that often on the 1995 tour and skipped it at almost every show in 1996. It's just too slow, and drags live. And they know it.
Here's a performance of the band doing it in Australia back in 1995:
You can see the pit going mental over it. Not. And that's when the song had been a single.
The band have been rehearsing this song a couple of times as a song for the platform, but it just doesn't work. Yes it's a nice song to listen to if you're a big fan of the band, but for the casual fan it's just a slow song, nothing more nothing less. It just never grabs you really, unless you've just madly fallen in love with a girl. Or your name is Semigiovi.
Would I want to hear it? I'm not even sure. Yes I like it, but it would kill the show for sure. I've always seen this song as a song that should be done in an intimate show. Not in stadium or arena shows. And there's a shitload of songs I'd rather hear. My friend (you know, the one who hates Wild Is The Wind) said I shouldn't request Dry County because it's not a song you can rock or dance to, but neither is Lie To Me. Lie To Me is just, well, slow. And not Always slow, or Bed Of Roses slow, but very slow.
This song most certainly doesn't get a crowd going or something like that. Dry County does (although not in her memory). She wants 50 banners for Lie To Me though and that's not going to happen (unless she makes them herself).
I'm voting for Nay. But unlike Complicated or Capt. Crash this isn't a song I'd hate hearing live. I wouldn't mind hearing it because it's still a good song.
Anyway, what's your opinion on the song?
Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
