Bono is already promising a follow-up album to Songs of Innocence, called Songs of Experience, that he'd like to have out as soon as 18 months from now. "We're hoping Songs of Experience will be less about intimacy," says bassist Adam Clayton, "and more about a celebration of sorts." The band's tentative plans are to take the indoor Songs of Innocence tour outside once the second album comes out. And there's another twist: In 2009, Bono promised that U2 would quickly follow up No Line on the Horizon with a more meditative companion album, Songs of Ascent. There has been no sign of it since, but Bono now sees it as the third part of the trilogy. "Songs of Ascent will come," he promises. "And there are some beautiful songs."

U2 set to play two gigs in each city they tour to next year.
One Rock N' Roll Show and One Unplugged Show.

One acoustic show and one "loud and explosive" show would be played on each leg of the tour.

Adam Clayton has let slip some of the plans for next year's massive 'Songs of Innocence' tour, telling Rolling Stone that each stop on the tour might well get not one but TWO U2 concerts.

"There is talk of doing two different kinds of shows", Clayton said. "One night would be a kind of loud, explosive rock n' roll kind of event and the other night's show take the acoustic arrangements of some of the songs, and kind of present those songs in a much more intimate way. But we don't really know how that's going to sound and look."

The prospect of a series of acoustic shows for the world's biggest arena rock band is an interesting one and would represent something of a departure from the band's previous U2 360 tours, which was one of the most technologically impressive concerts tours ever conceived.

Either way, U2 are definitely touring next year and all signs point to them playing indoor arenas (instead of stadiums), presumably to help facilitate a more intimate experience for fans but we wouldn't bet against a Croke Park show as we just can't see Bono and the boys inside the 3Arena.

That's great news, I love the new songs on unplugged version, especially Every Breaking Wave. Here a fantastic performance of their last show on Germany's Radio NRW. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6V9t...youtu.be&t=30s

This is awesome, an acoustic concert and other electrical. I think Jon wanted to do something similar in the HAND Tour, but ultimately did not dare. Instead, made the small acoustic set with songs of TLFR.

Well Bon Jovi did put on a full acoustic show in Yokohama in 2003 without billing it as such which was downright cheeky. I think it was intended for DVD release but Jon didn't like his vocals -
I think the acoustic show idea stinks myself. It's purely an ego stroking exercise. Give the fans what they want.
